I had heard good things from a friend last year and was excited to give it a try. I will give credit to Mr Shickler for his kindness because he went above and beyond helping us this year and that must be recognized. However my daughter's experience there has been a struggle and a learning experience that I hope will make her stronger . We will not be returning to Emerson. She has enjoyed Ms. Ward , Mr. Bigger, Mr Malone, Mr Klein. She has had her good days and bad days as she says but she found what they were teaching interesting and if you spark something in my kid I say you are doing your job. Our over all poor experience is with administration.

This school provides the nurturing and the academic excellence needed to support the growth of the whole child. It’s not just focused on academics because it is convinced that nurturing the whole child is critical to lifelong success.

Emerson challenges and support each student in his or her academic, social and emotional growth in small, inclusive class settings. My daughter loves her teachers, and she says that Emerson is a wonderful community.

So far or experience at Emerson had been wonderful. It's small and family-like. Students know each other and the body is diverse. It also encourages students to manage their own high school "career". It is definitely preparing then for college.

My son attends Emerson and has had wonderful teachers. He says some of them are the best he's ever had. The school has a family-like feel, very comfortable and slightly quirky. A real gem.

Upon returning to the US from overseas, we sought out a challenging, yet intimate school with an international and intellectually engaged student body, yet without the social distractions/cliques of typical large U.S. high schools. Emerson provided a perfect transition back to the U.S. as well as preparation for university study. Emerson offers classes in the university format, with four subjects studied in depth rather than a plethora of 'overviews'. Under a small and caring cadre of instructors and counselors, my daughter has been given the freedom to explore subjects outside of her normal comfort zone. This was not a luxury allowed in her previous IB school and this early exposure to new areas has made an incredible difference as regards her life goals and university choices. Speaking of which, during our university visits, we discovered that Emerson has a far greater name than it does amongst prospective high school students and their parents. We are enormously lucky to have discovered this gem.

Emerson changed my son's life. He developed academic and life skills, which translated into acceptance at a junior ivy league college. He found a talent and passion for music that has transformed his concept of what he can achieve. Thanks Emerson!!

If you are looking for a school with small classes, rigorous academics, caring and professional teachers and staff look no further than Emerson! My daughter loves going to school and avoids all the drama of a 'typical Breakfast Club high school experience' Staff really cares about the student and family. If there are any academic or social issues the staff will work with the family to help solve the problems with you! Best thing we have ever done for our daughter.

Emerson Preparatory College High School's name partially defines itself based upon the fact that its student body exhibits scholarly aptitude and college preparedness. The Headmaster, as well the Director of Admissions are both dynamic educators, who care about the educational wellness and well-roundedness of its student body. The professors treat each student with respect while encouraging forethought. The administration and office staff is superb. A small, balanced environment is great for any ivy league bound scholarly-type student. It matters not, that your child is assertive, or reserved, Emerson has the unique educational coursework applicable for your student.

Our daughter is off to a great high school start at Emerson. Before she started, the school took the time to understand her academic and social needs and took those into account in choosing her fall class schedule. Having four 90-minute classes a semester allows student to focus more in-depth on fewer subjects. It also gives the school flexibility to design a course schedule based on the needs, aptitudes and interests of its students. The Dupont Circle location encourages our daughter's independence by allowing her to commute via Metro. Emerson is a wonderful option for a teen who thrives in small classes and is ready for an academic community that focuses on learning (not testing) and encourages independence. Also, for our daughter, who is bright but needs extra support, the school is providing additional academic support that is really helping our daughter succeed.
