I had an incredible experience while teaching under the leadership of Principal Mair for seven years. Those years spent with her and my associates were truly amazing. When she was replaced by our new principal everything changed for the worse. I only hope the very best to all of the remaining staff.

Leadership in this school (2017/2018) is lacking. There are teachers in this school who yell at students in ways that do not seem appropriate.

I'm so pleased with the achievements of my son. Thanks to the teachers and guidance he receives at school, his academic level is of an advance grade. WELL DONE CLEVELAND!!!

A great school. The staff all get to know the students and families on an individual level. Excellent teachers.

Cleveland has a very well recognized bi-lingual program. When we enrolled our 3 year old 2 years ago we were told he'd be fluent in spanish by the beginning of his entry into first grade and it has come to fruition. The staff is attentive and accurately keeps us abreast of our child's progress. My only wish is that other programs around the city could use what Principal Mair has constructed as a model for all elementary schools in the city.

Great school ! The educational discipline that is instilled at Cleveland is priceless. My son is in the bilingual program and he is thriving. He was once a shy and unexpressive but very bright child who is now very cognitive and approaches his schoolwork with a confidence that has been instilled at home and Cleveland Elementary. The school is a direst reflection of the leadership provided by the principal, Mrs. Annie Mair.. as a former DCPS administrator, I have seen both the good and the bad . Cleveland Elementary is very good !

Based upon an earlier reviewer, I thought I would just pick up the telephone and get some background on the school. And best of all, I got answers! I found the staff to be extremely helpful and personable. I pay a LOT of money for day care, and I could hold my breath and turn blue waiting to get someone on the phone or a call back. Just based upon this initial conversation, my experience was a big positive.

The school is not what I thought it was. The staff constantly yells/barks at the children, in all grade levels-PreS-5th grades, to shut up, sit down, come here, etc. They are not allowed to talk in the restaurant. The Home School Association needs work and a audit of the funds. The school is segregated -bilingual track verses English track. Problem children are moved out of classrooms when a tour is going on so that prospective parents won t see them in action. Teacher moral is down and it shows. There have been a few fights this year.

This school has a strong principal that really loves the school. The teaching staff is consistant and committed to teaching. I love that the some of the same teachers that taught my older son who is now at an excellent public high school in the District are the same teachers that are teaching my youngest son. I also love the special education staff that are committed to what is best for the child and not arguing with the parent like my past experience at another DC Public School. This school is simply excellent and has been a wondeful school choice for two of my children. They are committed to providing an excellent education and they truly love and are committed to meet the needs of each student.

I have an third grader and Kgn in the Bi-Lang program. The teacher quality is great they actually care and love their job of teaching. As a involved parent in my children education they are not intimidated but welcome it and we work together for the "common good" which is my children education

I am researching elementary schools for my child. I have called numerous schools, including a few of the more well known public and charter schools in DC. While I cannot yet speak to teacher quality and academic programs, I can say it is the only school where the assistant principal called me back one day after I left a message, and arranged for a parent of a child in the school to call me the following day. At other schools I was told to monitor their webs site for notice of an open house and in some cases the person answering the phone was less than polite. Cleveland does not have a website but if they are willing to give a non-parent a bit of time and attention, it leads me to believe that they are doing the same, if not more, for current parents and children.
