My daughter attended the PK-4 program and will be in kindergarten this fall. So far, I am very pleased with Brookland. I find all of the administrators, office staff, teachers and volunteers to be very helpful and they all seem very invested in my daughter. There are many opportunities throughout the school year for parents to get involved and overall, my daughter seems to enjoy school, her teacher and making new friends. In terms of academics and the social environment for older students, this is an area I need to do more research. I am considering transferring my daughter to another school across town with higher academic ratings once she gets older, but for right now, Brookland is a good choice.

The principal here at this school has no sense of direction when it comes to driving these students. I observed her allow students to use profanity, fight, and run circles around her staff and she did absolutely nothing. I don't feel my child is safe at this school under her direction. These kids had to be no older than 10 years old cussing up a storm in front of her. She also is very rude to her staff in front of students and parents. PLEASE STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS SCHOOL PARENTS!!!!!

My daughter was bullied and abused by 3 boys and two girls and the principal did nothing about it. I was even notified until my daughter came home and told me that she bribed her an the other students with candy not to tell the parents. Inasked for a meeting with ms malakina and was barred from the school. I withdrew both of my children. The kids aren't safe and most of the parents don't even know what's happening on a day to day basis

WARNING TO ANY PARENTS OF PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS OR PROSPECTIVE TEACHERS: Save yourselves and your children from the stress, headache (figurative and literal -- NOISY) and awful administration and steer clear of this nightmare of a school. Ms. Malykhina is a horrible administrator who does not support her staff at all but instead berates and reprimands them in front of students. There are no consequences whatsover for the outrageous behaviors and dangerous situations that are allowed to occur in this building because she is trying to keep her suspension rates down. There are so many students that prevent the learning environment from being productive that ultimately very little learning takes place, with no consequences at all for the students causing these disruptions. They continue to act like this because of the complete lack of consequences and administrative support for these actions. Students who want to learn will ask teachers to "do something" about it, but there is nothing that the teachers can do. Malykhina's answer to everything is "increased rigorous instruction" -- which is true to an extent, but she ignores the fact that the school has become a dangerous place.

Brookland is doing an excellent job in educating and preparing their students for the future. The teachers and staff know all of the students and really show that they care. The middle school portion of the school offers honors sections in both English and Math. Students have gone on from Brookland to attend a variety of high schools, from Banneker to Wilson to McKinley Tech to Coolidge to Duke Ellington. The Brookland experience is great from Pre-School all the way up through 8th grade! We are just hoping we get the Gymnasium that was promised to us-keeping our fingers crossed!
