I went to Wanaque Elementary School when I was a child and it was a great school then. I'm a grown adult now and unfortunately both my children attend Wanaque Elementary and its a big disappointment. A lot of great teachers have either chosen to retire or have been let go. The Principal in my opinion is not fit to handle children. She is not personable at ALL! She doesn't care to hear what the parents have to say and never returns your emails or phone calls. She approves of certain Cops harassing parents while dropping their children off at school or while picking them up. The school is in need of many improvements and upgrades the "parking lot" being one of the many issues and feel that money is being spent elsewhere. The gym is falling apart and being held up by rolling mats and 2x4's. That to me is a huge safety issue for our children. I only hope that more parents come forward and changes are made for the sake of our children and for the future of this town.

After six years of Montessouri we had high hopes in trying our local elementary school instead of going on to private school. My son came in with staight A's and scoring in the 98th percentile on the Tera Nova tests... I spoke to the principal several times about how the would challenge my son and she assured me that he would be considered and placed in the gifted and talented program when she had the chance to review his gradess. The princilple either lied or didn't even know the system but I'm thinking absolutely lied because I had four different conversations with her about it. We did get the best 3rd grade teacher in the school and she fought to put him in another program. Unfortunately for Wanaque that teacher retired at the end of the school year. The art teacher Mrs. Riccadeli is one of the most amazing teachers I have ever had the pleasure of observing and working with... as she teaches art she also somehow teaches life lessons in the most subtle way.

Not impressed by the new principal or the new superintendent--the only thing I have seen them done is make decisions that hurt the kids in the school--the principal is difficult to work with--defensive--takes months to get a decision. Very disappointed to see excellent teachers arbitrarily let go while duds stay on.

The new principal should be fired!!!! All she cares is her looks and thinks she's the princess.. since she took over this school has gone down hill.. it's sad to what she's done!!! I hope board of Ed reads the reviews and does something about it. I can't wait for my daughter to finish her last year. What a shame!!! Most of the teachers are fine.. I wish I was able to give 0 start for the Principal.

They need a new principal. She is horrible! Does not listen to the concerns of parents. They have a 2-3 year and out policy for teachers. They let amazing teachers go each and every year. I'm so sad for my little town.

Not a great school - needs to improve academics. Lots of politics impacting school decisions.

Great school! Mrs. Gaudreau (Kindergarten teacher) is amazing. All of the school staff is caring and loving - my son, who didn't speak a word of English back in September, has blossomed here in just one academic year. We are very happy with our decision to move to this town and send our son to the Wanaque school!

Great school. Caring teachers. My two children attended this school. They were well prepared for highschool and then continued on to graduate from college. My grandchildren are also enrolled here and are doing well.

I attending this school from 6th grade in 1999 through 8th grade in 2002. The teachers were engaging and personable and made learning a lot of fun. Even now as a college graduate I still go back to the school to see my old teachers and tell them how I'm doing, thanks in large part to their guidance in my formative years. Without a doubt, this is one of the best elementary schools in the area.
