I believe the only reason that the school receives low improvement scores is because they did so well guaranteeing the students still received full, high quality curriculum education during the quarantine period, so they didn’t have far to go to get back to the top. Look at how advanced the scores are overall! I am extremely satisfied as a parent. The teachers work in teams and education is personalized to each student, despite being a large public school. The clubs and activities are awesome and the community is fabulous. There is little diversity. That is the only other low mark against it. Looking at this school’s number rating on great schools, one would never imagine how amazing it is. The ratings system needs improvement. Parents are aware and they do pay high taxes for their children to attend such excellent schools.

The music program is excellent. Students are given many opportunities to sing, play instruments, or act in the school musical. There are also many clubs and sports to choose from. The teachers are excellent and help the students learn well. However, there is way too much homework. Each teacher should consider the fact that they are not the only teacher in the school, and their students are receiving homework from other teachers as well. One teacher may give only 30 minutes of homework, but it all adds up if every teacher gives homework. Also, lunch and recess are only around 15 minutes each. Understandably, the breaks would be cut short to allow more time for learning in class, but studies show that students learn better when they have had proper exercise and time to eat. In addition, just because this is a middle school does not mean it cannot have a playground. Many students would have more fun at recess if there was some sort of obstacle course to climb on. One more issue is the diversity of the students and teachers. There are a lot more white students and teachers than any other race. More students and teachers of different races should be welcomed into the school. This would make the school much more diverse. Also, there is only one counselor per grade. There should be multiple counselors for each grade so each student can receive ample attention. This would help improve the mental health of every student. Although there are many issues, this is a good school overall. I am happy to be a student at Strath Haven Middle School.

Strath Haven Middle School is an excellent school if you are looking for the best education for your child. I moved to the district from another local district. I am so happy I did. My daughter enjoys her school and she tells me how her teachers make learning so much fun. The resources they have here are the best and the staff is phenomenal. They work as a team to help your child. The high school also made Blue_Ribbon again this year. The Wallingford -Swarthmore District is amazing. -Happy Parent of a 6th grader

Strath Haven Middle School might seem like a great place, but the number bullies is unbelievable. Eight out of 10 students are being harassed and bullied each day and it happens everywhere. The bullying happens in the halls, buses, cafeteria, recess, and even during class. Bullying consists of threats, assault, and cyber bullying. The faculty prevents bullying in a small way, but they don't have consequences to prevent further bullying. The faculty just gives the bully a detention usually, or a suspension. The school should teach kids how to respect each other and have a better system to prevent bullying. Strath Haven Middle School is a good place, don't get me wrong, but they should prevent the bullying more.

I had one daughter go through the Wallingford Swarthmmore School district and she is now a 2nd year college student. I also have a middle school-er. We have been generally pleased with the district and level of education as a whole. I feel that great school are a product of a great neighborhood and parents who are engaged in their child's learning. My second child is having a completely different time in SHMS than the first child. the new school building is wonderful but school renovations or lack there of had no bearing on the great education the kids received years ago, it is really great teachers and a wonderful community that makes great schools. So glad we live here and are a part of the WSSD community
