I have 2 children enrolled in Sunset and couldn’t be happier with how they have progressed each year. Mrs. Macaw has been great in keeping us as parents involved and aware of what is happening on a monthly basis. It truly is what you make of it, there are a lot of extra curricular activities available throughout the year. We have had some issues during our time there but feel that they have been resolved professionally with a lot of communication and consideration. Vicksburg is a growing community that cares!

We did not have a good experience with this school for the kindergarten class. That being said the speech therapist is wonderful! The new teacher aid was also wonderful. Our child was bullied for bringing lunch from home. The school lunch is lacking proper nutrition and is over processed, so for those who can pack a lunch, it is not absurd to do so. Our child was tickled by another child and gotten onto for disturbing the class. Who won't laugh while being tickled? The tickler got better and the issue resolved on it's own. Our child felt unheard by the teacher and the teacher claimed them to be hesitant to raise their hand and answer questions. When I asked our child the reason, they stated that they never got picked to answer when raising their hand. There were also instances where they were talked over by the teacher and not given a chance to answer a personal question (what's your favorite ____). I, myself, felt unheard by the teacher. I had messages left on read multiple times. When I asked what we could send to school for our child's birthday, I was told snacks prepackaged. Other children had goodie bags and cupcakes. My child was so disappointed with their class birthday. I was honest from the beginning that our child did not consume certain foods, one of them being dairy. The teacher constantly gave them dairy containing snacks. Luckily, they are not severely allergic, but do have a negative response to dairy, not to mention our household does not consume dairy in general. I was told by the teacher that I could send a backup snack for other kids' birthdays. Our child said they were never given that particular snack. It was a backup snack for our child not a class donation and the teacher was aware of this. I never received the snack back, even though I wrote our child's name on it.There is a lack of supervision at recess. Our child was constantly pushed, tripped, screamed at and chased, and told they can't play with sports balls. The office is often rude to me. They are much nicer to my husband. I've received way too much attitude for simply picking our child up for an appointment or emails for important documents needed. They lost our child on the second week. The speech therapist found them wondering the halls after a helper brought them to the wrong class room. Another time they were locked out.The bus is inconsistent and left our child behind on a half day, so they boarded the wrong bus. No math hw!This school is a hot mess!

I have four children who go to this school. While there are reviews stating that there is a lack of communication or no opportunity for parents to be involved in the class, I find this to not be true. Parents are welcome to have lunch with their child/children by asking the office to do so. My children also have different educational needs that are met to meet their individual needs. No school is perfect; however, I find that the Principal and Educators are flexible and doing their best post covid to return to "normal".

The school doesn’t make time for parents to be around their children for special events. The principal is also extremely rude.

I have two kids that attend (2nd & 5th grade) Sunset and I am very pleased. Their teachers have always been great at communicating with us parents and really want to help make sure no kid is left behind. They track the students progress throughout the year and adjust extra help as needed. They also did a fantastic job switching to virtual learning during COVID shut downs and enacted safety protocols when it was time to return so our kids could be in school as much as possible.

This school is terrible. The principal is the epitome of a "mean girl" and only cares about her own popularity in the town not her students and especially not the students with disabilities or those that are bullied. The principal and her 'BBF cliche' run the district and are terrible to any parent or staff that disagree with them. Parents have to go above and beyond to get anything out of this school or be lucky enough to get one of the few good teachers left. They are all quitting and are being replaced with either college kids that haven't even graduated yet or very inexperienced new staff. This school is also a physical health hazard! Do your research and avoid this school. Either one of the other elementary schools in this district far outweigh this one in every way! Just look at the great school scores on this site. It says a lot!

My son was targeted as a bad kid here but was diagnosed with ADHD the year after we moved to another district. Not only did his teacher and a lot of the staff not seem to know how to work with him, they acted like he was a nuisance. Aren’t educators’ sole purposes to guide and help children learn? This school very much failed us. We would never move back to this district.

Moved here from a school that was ranked an 8. At the time of this review, this school is ranked a 7. I can not believe the difference. THe kids never brought homework home. We were told the math was too hard for the parents. That may say more about the area than the school. I don't know. The new principal here is horrible. Very unorganized and could care less about the students. There are many special needs kids that are so bad they should not be in the classroom. They are disruptive and violent. The principal is only concerned about herself and could care less about the wellfare of these special needs children or how they are affecting the rest of the students. We have contacted the principal on several occasions and she takes weeks to return calls/emails. We had to get the superintendent involved just to get a response. This school does the Leader in Me program which is the one plus here. Some good teachers and some bad, just like any other school. I noticed other reviews on here are from 2010. The school must have went downhill since then.
