We moved to this neighborhood before we even had kids because of this great school, and this is our 6th year there. The families are amazing, the teachers are stellar, and the leadership is strong. Principal Fang works tirelessly to ensure every element of the school is at its best (she somehow gets 20 hours worth of work done in an 8 hour day. It’s astounding). And the kids LOVE her. So grateful to be part of this community.

We currently have our child in kinder [who was in TK last year] and another in 3rd grade at CDA. Our family LOVES our neighborhood school. Our kids are excited about learning, enjoy their teachers, have a lot of friends and come home energized to share what happened in their day. We also have an incredible new principal, Principal Fang, who brings 25+ years experience teaching every grade from PK-5th and being an assistant principal. We are so lucky to have her join the school. The CDA community of families, staff and volunteers care deeply about one another and the success of the school. 10/10

While it is true that there's been a lot of transition over the last few years, the addition of a new principal seems to have breathed renewed excitement and energy at the school. CDA has always been known for it's great teachers, strong leadership and community involvement. It is refreshing to see CDA getting back to its strengths. This is a caring and involved community where families truly make the difference. I am looking forward to what the next few years will bring.

CDA is an amazing local public school! The teachers in particular are supportive, go beyond, and challenge in all the right ways. Also - I don't believe the recent test score improvements were considered in this most current ranking, and that the ranking should indeed be higher.

We have been incredibly fortunate to have our child in Mr. Victorin's class (Kindergarten). From the very beginning, it was clear that he is the most dedicated, involved, kind teacher one could hope for. His energy and enthusiasm are truly unique, and I often find myself wishing I could be as energized in my 30s as he is. It's no wonder the kids absolutely adore him.Mr. Victorin has an exceptional ability to make learning fun and engaging. His creativity knows no bounds, and he has a great sense of humor. His jokes and "tricks" have become legendary, and I am sure they will be remembered by the kids for years. My daughter has not wanted to miss a single day in school since being in his class. Every morning, she is eager to go to school. What sets Mr. Victorin apart is not just his dynamic approach to teaching but also his genuine care for each student. He makes an effort to understand their individual needs and strengths, tailoring his approach to ensure that everyone can succeed. His fairness and kindness create a classroom environment where students feel safe, respected, and motivated to do their best.Mr. Victorin's impact on my daughter's educational journey has been profound. She has developed a genuine love for learning, gained confidence in her abilities. We feel truly blessed to have had Mr. Victorin as her teacher and cannot recommend him highly enough. His passion for teaching and dedication to his students is inspiring!

My children are currently graduating from kindergarten and 2nd grade, I feel compelled to share our exceptional experience. This school is truly a gem, thanks to a vibrant parent community and a robust booster club that sponsors enriching programs like PE, art, music, and gardening. One of the standout features of CDA is the dedicated teaching staff. The teachers have been with the school for many years, showing little turnover and a wealth of experience. This stability has contributed significantly to our children’s academic success. As a foreigner, I have immensely valued the diverse community at CDA. The rich mix of cultures not only accepts but celebrates our differences, creating a welcoming environment where every child feels at home. This was particularly important for us as we adjusted to moving to a new country. The school’s inclusive atmosphere ensured my children felt they belonged, prompting us to continue their education here despite moving to a different area. The academic progress of my children has been outstanding. Besides, CDA also offers fantastic after-school programs that support working parents like myself. These include a free UCLA program with daily activities in STEM, art, and yoga. CDA also has the Share and Care program sponsored by Cedars-Sinai, which has been instrumental in equipping my children with emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills.Throughout the year, community engagement events brim with fun, laughter, and bonding, reinforcing the joy and connectedness of the school environment. There are not enough words to express my gratitude for CDA and the profound impact it has had on our family. We are truly thankful for everything this school has offered.

My daughter has attended Coeur D'Alene Avenue Elementary School since 2019, entering Kindergarten, and her experience has been overwhelmingly positive. She has enjoyed every teacher she has had, each bringing dedication and passion to their classrooms. During the challenging times of COVID-19, the teachers went above and beyond, ensuring that the students continued to receive quality education and support. The school has consistently been attentive to my concerns about my child's educational challenges. I have always felt included in my child's educational journey, with open communication and a collaborative approach from the staff. While we have faced some challenges with the administration, this is more a reflection of the broader issues within LAUSD, the second-largest school district in the USA. The frequent changes in administration have been difficult, but it is the parents, staff, and especially the dedicated teachers who hold this school together.Coeur D'Alene Avenue Elementary is a school rooted in community and progression. We move with the tides and consistently accomplish so much to provide every child with a well-rounded education. Despite the hurdles, this school excels in fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment.

We chose to CDA because neighborhood and community is important. As we finish up the kindergarten year I wanted to reflect on how well the school has been doing. I see positive movement left and right and the families I've been lucky enough to meet are all motivated to make the school the best it can be whether by volunteering or donating as needed. This school, like all public schools needs money to offer the enrichment programs we all want for our kids. Pay what you can and know that the intentions are good even if there is a lot of asking. There's also some really fun events and definitely a community feel and the kids are happy and thriving. Come tour the school! See for yourself. My child is so happy here.

We have been so impressed with the education and experience at CDA. The teachers are dedicated and thorough, they nurture such a love of learning and I really appreciate how they care for each child individually. No homework (because there is no evidence that it improves outcomes) means more time for extra curricular activities and ultimately, childhood! One of my children has speech therapy at school and the process has been so smooth, he loves the sessions and I am deeply appreciative. The parent community works really hard to enrich the school experience, with events and fundraising to cover additional classroom aides, music, art, gardening and theater. We are delighted that our children are getting a well rounded education in a close knit community. Hoping that the new Principal will continue what is best about the school and develop it further. Although the disruption might be challenging, the teachers and parents will still be there so I'm confident of success!

What once was one of “the best” elementary schools around has become one of the worst. We toured the school when Principal Jenkins was still there. When we began, he left. We’ve had 4 principals in 3 years. Staff is fleeing. Parents are pulling their kids out left and right.Principal is cold, dismissive, defensive and won’t address any of the myriad of concerns the parents have. Safety is apparently not important and not a concern. homeless all surround the school. She doesn’t answer emails. Oh and not to mention you will be HOUNDED for money. all the time. If you have any other option, i highly suggest it!

CDA, once known for its excellence as a school with a highly engaged Principal and compassionate teachers, has faced significant challenges in the past year. Regrettably, these challenges resulted in notable disciplinary and academic setbacks. The proactive parent community has consistently raised concerns and sought solutions, but their efforts have not been met with sufficient responsiveness from school officials. The arrival of a new, more formal, and less cooperative Principal has added to the difficulties.Despite the current situation, there remains hope that the issues can be addressed and resolved. However, for parents considering the school for children beyond Kindergarten, it may be prudent to carefully evaluate the current state of affairs. It is worth noting that the Kindergarten and Pre-K programs continue to maintain their high standards and are still considered strong options.

the teachers were horrible and half of them were crazy. One teacher grabbed a student by the ear and dragged the poor student away. Many of the teachers are disrespectful and horrible teachers. My kid is traumatized from what they saw at the school.

My son have attending this school since kindergarten, when he started back to in person learning he was in 2nd grade. During 2nd grade he Teacher be a I’ll and was out of school almost the whole semester, poor kids in the class had at least 5 substitute teachers, every month was a different sub, there was no communication on the students learning. And there was 4 different principles in one year. So for 3 rd grade I’ve decided to get my son out of that school. Because there was no stability, and I felt that my child was behind in his learning. And I definitely was right because now he is so behind and his education at his new school and it’s almost embarrassing. I had to actually explain to his new teacher that in second grade, he had five different substitute teachers in one year. Ever since the first principal, Mr. Jenkins left this school has went downhill.

CDA is going through a major crisis. Despite more than a few great teachers and an amazing parent community, this school is struggling. Things are chaotic, which heavily affects the academic progress and emotional well-being of children. Four principals in 2 years, no real leadership and accountability. Teachers, staff, and families are fleeing the school. The newest principal never was a principal before, doesn't take criticism well, and acts immaturely by sprinkling families with new restrictive rules and pushing them away from school. So far, she's been unable to address major behavior and safety issues in an adequate and timely manner. Communication and transparency leave a lot to be desired.I hope things will change for the best eventually, but it's likely to take years.

Very poor experience here. Approx 14 staff members quit in one year! Office staff members gossiping when they THINK parents are not around. Very bad moral here. Teachers fail to communicate properly and my children suffered academically here. This school really feel apart. I took my kids out and never looked back. Now I just occasionally hear people joke about what a disaster the school it. Too bad because it USED to have a good reputation.
