Elementary, Middle and High schools in Van Wert, Ohio are good schools but only if your child is normal and has a average learning ability. If your child has a learning disability such as autism they just don't know how to handle them. The schools don't understand that autistic children sometimes have tantrums and similar episodes. They don't have a effective approach to these kind of problems. So their answer to these situations is to send the child home rather than finding a way to deal with the problem. It's like they don't want kids with mental disabilities in their schools so they just send them away! If you are moving to Van Wert, Ohio or already living here and your child has autism. I strongly recommend that you look into home schooling for your child.

VWCS provides wonderful opportunities for its students. Although some may not take advantage of those opportunities, they are certainly available. VWCS has adopted the Project Based Learning model of education whereby students work in small groups to complete projects designed to engage all types of learners. The CEO program is another cutting edge program recently implemented at the high school level which teams students with local businesses to expose intrested youth to career opportunities while still in high school. Response from the program has been positive and will cotninue to expand. This progressive attitude makes VWCS unique in the area.

Teachers are usually good, although some act as if they just hate kids in general. The school uses the Common Core standard system as well as employing the Project Based Learning system, a program in which students educate themselves about the subject given to them instead of teachers telling information, whether through a book or a video. That in combination with the hard subjects taught in each class can cause students to become very stressed over assignments and grades. The school itself was built in 2006 and is well maintained, although the color scheme is rather drab with almost all walls being grey. That in combination with the grey floor tiles and white ceiling tiles causes a seamless appearance of an energy-sucking atmosphere. If you would ask any student if they are happy at this school, the general consensus would be comprised of mixed results. Some don't mind it, while others hate it with a passion. Overall, I'm not satisfied with it....Written by a Sophomore at VWHS
