Cons: There've been fights. I've actually never seen one...but one was occuring behind me one time & I didn't even realize it 'til it ended. Some teachers here don't have effective methods. Students here are very negative, annoying, mean, disrespectful, & swear WAY TOO MUCH. Someone here is actually already pregnant! There's this female yard duty who doesn't make anything fun & yells at us all the time. Also, there's no Four square here.Pros: I love the food here, it's actually REAL FOOD unlike when I went to my elementary school. I enjoy P.E., & there are ROUTINES. I hang out with 2-3 different groups of friends here, they're the best! Teachers here are funny.I'm currently a 7th grader, you'll usually see me walking home from this school along with 1 OR 2 friend/s. Overall, I'd rate this school 3 stars.

My son has had a really good experience his two years at Vaca Pena. Most of the teachers are really really good. I was so surprised at how inspiring they were to my son. Never once has my child ever got into a fight or been bullied. The music program is the elective to be in hands down. Only a few snags. I feel like the calendar online does not post events and schedules far enough in advance. Also I was dissapointed in how the robotics club was ran, it had so much potential. Besides that the school was excellent.

We recently moved here from the East Bay and are very happy with Vaca Pena. My son is learning academic discipline. We feel it is safe and the teacher quality is very good. The current principal Mr. Crane is especially great; he really connects with each kid, is motivating, and passionate about the school. Goooooo Panthers!

These ratings are useless. While it says there are 14 ratings, if you hover over "based on 14 ratings," it says that there were 3 one star ratings in 2011, none in 2012, 1 four star rating in 2013 and none in 2014 (Where do they get 14?. This tells you that most people don't bother to rate especially if everything is going well, and if someone is moved to rate, it is because they are angry about something as I feel now. I have had 4 grandchildren go through Vaca Pena Middle school and one is still there. They do as well as they care to do, and they learn as much as they care to learn. I am giving this school 4 stars because I feel that the teacher quality and Principal leadership are fine. Some students don't care if they learn. You just can't give it 5 stars when some children who attend don't do their part to make it a great school.

Wow! I am shocked at the 4 reviews Vaca Pena received from this blog. We have had 3 out of 5 children go to vaca pena. 1 in the time frame of your responces. Our other was at Jepson during this same time. We have one attending Vaca Pena presently. If I as a mother of 5 had to pick a public junior high in this town it definetly WOULD be Vaca Pena.

Went here for one year and here's what happened: Someone stole my phone, someone cut off a chunk of my hair, my grades suffered, I was bullied, I was frightened and I got all F's because I couldn't focus but I still received a Student of the Year award. So, instead of telling you about the apathetic teachers or the horrifying student body and the gang activity I'll just say that you would be better off getting the homeless man beneath the bridge to teach your child.

If i could rate this school no stars i would. The students here bully everyone. The teachers? Horrible. I attended this school for my 7th grade year, I switched to Jepson next semester in a hurry. Jepson is MUCH better.

DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO THIS SCHOOL. Send your children to Jepson Middle School or Vaca Christian.
