Review of Legacy Magnet Academy: A Student’s Perspective.As a student at Legacy Magnet Academy, I want to share my thoughts. While there are some positives, there are several areas that need improvement.The removal of late starts was a huge letdown. The extra hour of sleep was essential for many of us, especially those with long commutes or busy schedules. The earlier start times have made it harder to stay focused. More flexible start times would be helpful. The library is small, crowded, and lacks up-to-date resources. It’s tough to find a quiet spot, and the selection of books doesn’t meet the needs of students doing serious research. Expanding the space and improving resources would be great. While there are security officers, the school isn’t well-monitored, especially during lunch. I’m concerned about how well the school would handle an emergency. Mental health support is also limited, and counselors are hard to access. More staff and mental health resources are needed. The mandatory "dances" are nothing like actual dances. We’re forced to sit in the sun with no entertainment. It’s frustrating to attend events that feel like a waste of time. The school should either make them more fun or let us opt out. Students are expected to pay for tickets, decorations, and snacks, even though the school could cover some of these costs. This creates a divide between those who can afford it and those who can’t. Lowering fees or subsidizing would make the events more inclusive. The cafeteria is crowded, and the food options are limited. The gym is small and doesn’t accommodate larger events. Classrooms lack modern tech, which limits the effectiveness of lessons. Improvements in these areas would enhance the school experience. The administration often makes changes without enough notice, leaving students unprepared. Better communication and transparency would help students feel more involved. Legacy Magnet Academy has potential, but it needs to address issues like late starts, library space, safety, and event inclusivity. With improvements, the school could become a much better place for students.

Legacy Magnet is a breath of fresh air among the traditional, pressure cooker schools in the area. The STEM curriculum seems thoughtfully planned and the teachers seem passionate and enthusiastic about teaching here. Since they need additional training to teach here, the school attracts teachers who really want to be there and really want to teach! LMA seems to want students to become critical problem solvers and leaders. They don't want robots who just memorize information. I believe the administration researched other best in class schools in the nation and culled their practices; when the administration does make a change they often cite evidence as to why they are making the change. We really appreciate their thoughtfulness. We were lucky to get both of our kids in through the lottery a few years ago, but I've heard its gotten increasingly difficult to get in that way. Some of the cons are the lack of after school programs like athletics but overall it's a wonderful community and we are glad to be a part of it!

Legacy Magnet Academy is a great school to go to. There are amazing teachers that support you, & Great programs. There is a program where you do Accelerated Math, as well as Virtual Enterprises, Dramatic Productions, & more. Legacy Magnet Academy is the newest school in the district & is the school in the district that everyone wants to go to, but it is a hard school to get into, especially if you have special needs. There is no homework thankfully, & you get Point Break 4 times a week to work on your unfinished work, projects, & when you are done with everything, you can read, Duolingo, Nitro Type, & depending on your PB Teacher, you can even have free time at the end of Point Break. Amazing school, and skills that are taught can be useful for future careers. Microsoft Word Design, & Virtual Enterprises Junior Ventures are other Middle School Programs at this school. The only CONs are that there aren't very many good resources for people of special needs, the library is pretty small, & the new schedule for Wednesday's is worse for student learning, which was moved back an hour from 9:30 to 2:55 to 8:30 to 1:55, which can be frustrating for people who want more sleep, me included.
