I would give this school a 10 out of 10. I was skeptical and weary about having my second son start here after my first son (9 years older) had an extremely difficult time here. In the years, the atmosphere has completely changed. I find Butterfield Elementary to be a warm an inviting environment for son. The educators are amazing in how they interact with the children. They are kind, understanding and encouraging, that means the works to us.

Many of the older comments talk about the previous principal. The current one seems to be everything the previous one was not. He is respectful and energetic and works to foster a great school culture. There are a lot of community building events and after school classes and clubs. My daughter is thriving and excited to go to school each day.

We moved here from Colorado. My daughter is the 1st of four kids to start kindergarten. She's done awesome! Beyond awesome! All the staff know all the children by first name basis. I never see them tolerate bullying in any way. I don't know about other families at Butterfield but the rest of my children will go here when their school age ready. They help her with everything. They key in a lot on reading. She reads to me at night before bed. And she's a kindergartner. So far it's been great!!!

This school is horrible!!! My special needs son went here and the principle told him and me that he was faking his diagnosis. The other teachers and staff could have caredrss about him as well because they also told him and I that there was nothing wrong with him and he just wanted attention. The special education teacher that he had pulled him in the hall and yelled and him telling him that he was doing everything deliberately. We pulled him out the next day and haven't looked back. There were seven professionals all diagnose my child with the exact same disability. the treatment that my child received was terrible.

After 5 years of struggle with this school, I decided to pull my child out for good. I agree the principle is rude she's not nice to the kids she's a bully. My child has been labeled, has been bullied by the teacher who say they are there for the kids. I have many complaints to the principle about all the problems my child has been through and she can care less. I been told many times my child doesn't know anything but then again they haven't done anything to help my child. The sad part is my child has passed aims test every year and gets no credit from this school. Oh and by the way they need to practice what they preach about being positive yeah they are no where near that!

Like the previous commenter, we also used to love this school but not any more. The Principal is unprofessional and rude to kids, parents, and even her own staff. Kids are afraid to tell teachers about bullying or other problems because they know they will get in trouble either way, for tattling, or for witnessing. The school is also looking very junky.

My child has been going to this school for the last 4 years. I use to love it! Unfortunately our principal changed and a lot of the great teachers went too. Since then Butterfield has not been the same. The quality of this school is dramaticly dropping. My children will definately NOT be attending there next year.

I think the principal of this school needs to questioned! I just got the news you don't want children being dropped of on school grounds because a parent was racing through the parking lot so now you will flood our neighborhoods and increase the risk of children getting hit these children going to your school are your responsibility a lot of money has been spent on the school this past year and has done nothing to help with the way the community around you is affected. People dropping their kids off in our neighborhood also speed through the streets now you have increased the odds of one of them getting hit whether you realize it or not you obviously haven't listened to us at all and I no longer feel it's the parents but the leader that has a voice and uses it wrong and crossing guards also need to be terminated since they are not strong enough to enforce what happens around them. I'm sure another solution can be found that doesn't put these kids are more risk.

Our daughter just finished Kindergarten at Butterfield and she loves the school. I was impressed by the activities this school is able to offer on what we all know is a limited budget. The Kindergarten teachers were very involved and did a lot of extras for the kids. The principal and vice-principal are greeting kids out front every day, and the front office staff know most of them by name. My daughter learned a lot this year and we are very happy with the environment.

I don't think it is fair for the school to be graded here based solely on how some parents are parking illegally in front of nearby homes. it is true that there are some rude parkers out there. I use the lot or park in legal areas in the neighborhood. A little walk is good for you anyway. My kid has gone to Butterfield since 2009 and we are happy with the school overall. The teachers have all been great with the exception of one grouchy one who has told me she would rather be retired. I think the school has benefitted from the new assistant principal. A happier tone at the school is a welcome change. It seems rather cool and serious most of the time. Academically it is very strong.

Our daughter has gone to Kindergarden and 1st grade @ Butterfield so far and as long as we live in the neighborhood she will continue to go there. Over all I think this is a very good school and has an excellent ciriculam. I do like the sense of community and pride in our country that is promoted @ school. As far as the last review of Butterfield that was posted on 9-15-2011 goes I'm not sure what their problem is with the school? If signs are posted and people park and turn around in front of their house...what's the school supposed to do about it, it's got nothing to do with school enforcement! Also, how long have you lived in your "quiet neighborhood"? Can't be that long since Butterfield has been there pretty much since they built the neighborhood.

As a parent of 6 former Butterfield students, I strongly disagree with the previous posting. My children received an excellent education, and we all loved and valued the teachers and staff. The principal values children and education and her genuine love for the kids shines through all she does. Each time I walk in the office I am greeted with a welcoming smile and a friendly hello. I have 35 years of experience with Butterfield, and wouldn't change a thing about it.
