I am writing this review mainly to correct the misinformation in the reviews above mine that are filled with idiocy. I am 1996 graduate of this school which was the 2nd year of the operation of this facility. I have a college degree and a good career in Engineering. I have one daughter that graduated in 2017 and 4 more that are currently enrolled at Dade County High School. I also know several teachers who do currently or have in the past taught there. Firstly, there is not a teacher in this school that would tell a child to quit school. In fact, I would say most schools don't have teachers that would say or do this. This is a ridiculous accusation. Secondly, the teachers shouldn't be communicating with parents very much at all unless the child is out of control and disrupting the classroom or starting trouble. I have my kids communicate with teachers and coaches because when they get into the real world, they will need these skills to further themselves. I can't always be there for them. The school maintains a system with grades entered by teachers. The parents can log into to view a students grades and progress throughout the year. This system has been in place for a long time since at least 2013 when my kids came here. Lastly, the school isn't "old". It was built in 1995 and has been updated over the years. It's a large school with plenty of classrooms room and great facilities. We have onsite football, baseball, softball, tennis and basketball facilities unlike some other places. We pay plenty of taxes to keep our schools updated in this county and the county does a fine job doing that with all schools. I'm not here to say our school is awesome or great. However, I do believe that it is definitely on par with surrounding schools because my kids came from a neighboring school. I'm just a parent that realizes that some parents are idiots and blame everyone but their own kid and those kids are trouble makers that affect the education of my own kids.

The teachers don't keep parents informed when the student is getting behind and then calls me when its way to late for anything to be done. One of my sons teacher last year even told Jim just to go ahead and quit cause he wouldn't amount to anything anyway how sad is that to tell a child that way to encourage not I hate Dade County Schools

This school is horrible. There are a very few number of teachers who actually can teach. It's old, small, and not a good environment. Teachers are teaching subjesubjects that they are not qualified to teach in. Students are being set up for failure. There are very few classes available to students. The worst thing is that CERTAIN "gifted" students are given special treatment that is completely unfair to students who do care and want to succeed just as much. And are given the exact opposite of what is needed to help them. The whole system is a joke. It's ridiculous. I wouldn't recommend this school to anyone. No students are ready for college no matter what the school tells them or the parents. The whole community is blinded by this horrible place. Some teachers have to learn from other teachers on how to teach, and what they're supposed to be teaching.

We visited this DHS for the first time in the fall of 2013 and we are very impressed. The faculty and staff really seem to care so much about their kids, they are like a family. Our child will be transferring from a larger school in Florida and we hope she will have a more positive experience here. I feel that the negative reviews posted by former students are not constructive and the points they bring up are actually positive points for Dade. They sound like kids who would fit in at an inner city school rather than this small community. We'll make our own judgment but, for now we have a good impression.

I use to attend DCHS. It is, by far, the worst school ive ever had the displeasure of attending. Religion is a big problem in this school! I've attended schools in multiple countries, and have never seen religious influence like this. What else could be expected from the bible belt, i suppose. I was moved to alternative school after my 5 excused and 5 un-excused absences were used. I admit that i skipped class 5 times that year, but is alternative school really a suitable punishment for these actions? Shortly after this happened, I received news that I was being kicked out due to residency issues. (after attending this school for over a year with no address change) They left me with limited options and no help. I eventually found a group known as the Optimists, who helped with financial costs of the GED test. After scoring well above average on the test, the group asked me to come in and speak. Of course my gratitude outweighed my stage fright. Upon Entering this meeting, I saw the man who signed the paperwork that led to my disenrollment. I was pleased to remind him of my identity. Although being strongly infuenced to start college at the age of 16 has only helped me, I regret it.

Our teen is starting this school this fall. I will update when I have more to report, but when we visited last spring, I was really impressed with the friendliness of the students and staff.
