I have 3 currently going to this school and we are extremely satisfied with the school staff. There's always clear communication.

I have had nothing but great experiences as far as social interaction, COVID safety, education, and extra curricular activities. I have two children who attend this school, I love this school for them. The teachers communicate via email about any issues or any missing assignments. Some email just to give praise. I find some even call on the phone. I couldn’t ask for any better communication.

Old State tends to focus a lot of their resources in emailing parents for all non-education events. If you like emails reminding you about their annual fun run & fundraiser events, this is the school for you. When you attend the parent teacher conference hoping to get key details on your child's progress, its student led & have no opportunity to address specific items unless you do so in front of your child. The school likes to request a lot of supplies all throughout the year . Every grade level is expected to supply things such as index cards, loose leaf paper, tissues, hand sanitizer, and bottled water is requested at events. Even though supplies are constantly requested, its never enough. Parents are expected to supply items for all the parties the classrooms have, afterschool activities & events. It's wonderful that the school leaders & PTO make this environment the goal, but I am not sure the focus is where it needs to be when it comes to academics. The communications that come home are 85% of time related to these type of things, yet when you have an actual inquiry based on student grades, or development or key schedule changes etc. its nearly impossible to get a straight answer without it being a hassle. Leadership seems to think parents schedules w/ employers are flexible & can be changed at all times even up to the last minute w/ no warning. On multiple occasions meetings for my child were scheduled for weeks & then at the last minute after arrangements were made w/ both employers for my wife/myself, the time was no longer going to work for them. They did a poor job of planning & just changed it & expected us to jump to the new time w/ no issues. The school can be wonderful but they can also be downright rude w/ the approach that they take. A teacher from a prior year told my child that a theme day was not happening when it was, made my child self conscious about them days even now a year later. Honestly I think they could being doing more to help my child succeed. They focus on the "7 habits" but school leadership needs a refresher in this because as of right now they are not hitting the marks in my opinion. I hope over time this improves but you get a sense they have a high opinion of themselves. As if they can do no wrong & that's the first mistake.
