It's a miracle this is a "D" school and not an "F". Kids are disrespectful. Admin doesn't hold their favorites accountable. Parents curse in the office. terrible all around

I used to be a teacher at this school but left in the middle of the year due to a lot of issues. By far the biggest issue was definitely the lack of accountability by admin. Students would get in physical fights to the point where kids who got hurt would have to be sent home for the day due to injuries meanwhile the kids who caused the injuries would AT MOST get in school suspension in another classroom for a week. The school also did not provide training to regular gen ed/extracurricular teachers specific to working with special needs students which made it hard for teachers to effectively +equitably help those students when they are getting escalated due to overstimulation, bullying, etc.The work environment was also extremely toxic. Students would constantly say racist or homophobic things to teachers and admin never did anything to address these issues with students other than giving them a referral and making them say sorry. When a good chunk of teachers would call out and there were not enough substitutes admin would cancel extracurricular classes for the day so those teachers could substitute for those classes instead. I was also being constantly hit on by one of the 6th grade teachers in front of other male coworkers and no one said anything until I went to HR. So overall if you have a child, especially one that is special needs or a person of color do not send them here or to any other schools in UESD. And if you are a teacher looking for a job (especially if you’re a first year teacher) this is NOT the place for you.

The bullying at this school is terrible. When it is brought up to teachers and the principal they reassure you that they will handle it but never follow through. The academics aren't any better either. This school is going downhill quickly. They have very limited resources to help the kids that need extra support. If you aren't in the office or emailing constantly then nothing ever gets accomplished. I would stay as far away from this school as you can. Especially if you're child needs extra help in certain subjects.

I wouldn’t recommend this school to anyone who has a child with autism or any learning disability. The class sizes are too large the staff isn’t trained properly and have lack of empathy for students with mental disabilities. They don’t know how to effectively communicate with parents and there’s been plenty of racism amongst the students, staff and parents. If you’re African American I wouldn’t send my child there because they definitely won’t get treated fairly. You will be bullied by teachers and students and if you try to advocate for yourself it gets worse.

We have always liked Dos Rios and the teachers are wonderful if you get a good one. Some of them are a little young and seem to be more into arts and crafts than actually teaching but they not all bad. My issue is that some random woman told me she was the principal but I found out later that she worked for the district office instead. She did not tell me that and kept saying that she was the principal and would take care of everything but then she didn't and thats how I got in touch with the actual principal. Mr. Stewart contacted me later and he took care of everything which is how I know she worked for the district office and not actually the school. He seemed honestly confused about why she said she was the principal to and NO I did not get her confused with the assistant principal this was some other women. She kept saying she was in charge and she understood my concerns but then she didn't do nothing and wasn't even really working there.

We are happy to be Dos Rios Rockets! We moved from Hurley Ranch (a different school in the district) to here and we are so glad that we did! This campus is so much friendlier and happier and my kids don't hate going to school anymore. The teachers seem nice and supportive and the principal and assistant principal seem professional and responsive. More than anything you get a sense that there is an actual community at Dos Rios. Even with everyone wearing masks you can tell that people are smiling... I never noticed how negative the environment was at our old school before but we sure are glad to be in a much more positive place.

This is the absolute worst school ever. They allow kids to be bullied with no real consequences and something has to be done about it!

This school is terrible! So much bullying! Second graders cursing! The front office doesn't even ask for ID when signing kids out! While waiting for my niece to come to the front, I witness two boys sitting at a table in the front, one was asleep! I was moved to wait in the nurses office and didn't see the nurse for over ten minutes, with other students coming in and waiting for her as well. The sleeping boy from the front came into the nurses office, having peed himself in his sleep! They just moved the chair to the hallway and turned it around! My daughter hated it there. She hate getting up in the morning and having to go there, she was so unhappy. She told me she had no friends there and the teacher didn't want to listen to her when she complained of bullying. Once I took my daughter out of this school her whole personality changed and she was happy again! Don't bring your children here!

How could you not love this place??!! Super friendly people, excellent curriculum, great teachers, and specials (P.E., Music, Art, Library) Plus, the added bonus of before and after school programs for free and sports too. Very clean campus too. Great place to have kids learning at!

My children LOVE Dos Rios! They love being greeted by Mr. Collins out front at the gate and saying hello to Dr. B as they pass her on their way to class. They love their teachers. They love the student of the month assemblies and the games they play. They love P.E., art, music, and library. Perfect place for my kids!!!!

I have been at this school for 8 years and every year Dos Rios just keeps getting better and better. I don't know how they do it! This is the best year yet! I have had the most pleasant experience with all 5 of my children. That is saying something. I wouldn't want my kids to be anywhere else!

This school has such a positive energy. Everyone greets me with a smile, and my child has grown leaps and bounds! This place is the best.

My children have been attending Dos Rios since they started Kindergarten. I now have a 4th grader and 1st grader, and I couldn't be more pleased with their education, school, teachers, and administration. The atmosphere is pleasant and fun, the teachers are creative and caring, and if ever I have a problem or concern, it is addressed immediately with care and individualized attention. As with any public school these days, there are many struggles and challenges like class sizes, budget, and state testing mandates, that just can not be dealt with at a school level, yet they seem to manage and make it as easy as possible for the students and families. We also have a lot of community family activities that I can enjoy with my family and I love their 21st century after school program! I HIGHLY recommend this school and look forward to its future growth. Every year it gets better and better!

Mr Collins has no idea what he is doing. There are more long term subs in the building than teachers. Dr rice only cares about getting a budget not kids. Which he literally said at a district meeting. Most middle school classes have 40+ kids in them with children sitting on the floor. There are uncertified teachers teaching required classes that kids are tested in for the state. Teachers constantly lose their prep periods as well as lunch as if we were working in a third world country. They claim to be kids at Hope school which is an awesome philosophy however student discipline has kids staring at the wall for long periods of time. You might as well put a dunce hat on them and call them stupid. I would not send my child to this school or any Union elementary schools if you paid me. Parents DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE And put them through this abuse. By the end of the year six teachers quit and only a few actually stayed to work there. They had to hire an entire 8 th grade team and four out of six seventh grade teachers for 2015-16. The unfortunate year that I worked there they hired an entire 7th grade team and four out of six 8th grade teachers. I believe around 20 teachers left in total. that should tell you something about Collins welsh and rice. They have no clue as to what they are doing. Kids have NO HOPE at this school. -teacher
