This is a okay school if your child is a girl. The school is very sexist not to mention unfair to the male students. Little things count like if a boy is in the front of the line he has to go to the back to be a "gentleman". A girl has a very small chance at getting into trouble no matter what they do. Recently my classmate burped loudly as a joke at lunch to be funny, they teacher gave him detention. Detention is not to just be thrown around, its not a good punishment for a joke. He said excuse me and apologized without even grinning. A girl burped really loudly and laughed loudly, said excuse me and the teacher didn't even look at her weird. That is completely outrageous and makes absolutely no sense. Recently a girl in my class was talking back to a teacher and practically arguing with her because she did not feel like participating, she did not get any punishment. One of my classmates apparently side eyed a teacher after they were screaming at them and being extra because they were doing a handshake with another student in the hallway and got detention. Girls in this school tend to be very rude to teachers, and will often get no punishment, but as soon as a boy disagrees with a teacher he gets a harsh punishment. The school is not a safe place emotionally for young men, they will be brought down. If your child is a young women the school has some pros for them since they will face no bad marks on their record, be treated kindly instead of poorly etc... This school would be amazing if they treated both genders the same, otherwise from that the school is just about fine except for the homework loads. It leaves us as students little to no free time when we get home. The physical environment is safe, and teachers do not put their hands on children. The school does perform quite well academically besides its flaws, but it does not make up for a lot of things. If your child is male he might be respectful to women, but in return will have low self esteem and think of themselves lower than women at any given time. Everyone should be treated equally, not unfairly, this is unfair. If you decide to pick this school for a young male child remember to teach them their worth, and how to respectfully stand up for themselves.

The Learning Tree Cultural Prepratory School is unmatched in their committment to our children and the local community that they serve. As a TLT parent, this school has been instrumental in laying a foundation for my daughter that is enriched with black excellence! The staff fosters a loving environment that has been home away from home for eleven years.

The Learning Tree is one of the best schools in the Bronx. What the children learn about their culture in this school is nothing like what is learned in public schools. They are taught to take pride in who they are and be proud of where they come from. I recommend this school to any parent that is looking for a community of teachers that will ensure their child is taught to be a well rounded individual and taught their culture in ways that discuss but do not only highlight the not so joyous parts of it.

I have three children attending The Learning Tree; I recommend this school to everyone simply because of how much my children enjoy being there and enjoy what they are learning. Our school is especially rich in our culture. The Teachers are well-rounded and are up to date with the culture and curriculum in education. The students are thrilled and have a voice at this school. I am satisfied with how the teachers and administrative team are involved with each student.

My experience with The Learning Tree Preparation School has been great for the past ten years. The Learning Tree is a home away from home for my granddaughter. The teachers are so nurturing to the students. If they ever showed up without lunch or snack they always get something to eat. Each child that goes through those doors is taught to be a confident, loving, caring, and well-rounded person.

As parents of a student in The Learning Tree, we can say it was a true blessing when a friend of the family recommended The Learning Tree to us. We wanted a safe and nurturing environment for our child and this institution has provided that and more for us. We commute from a neighboring state to New York every day because we want our child to experience the high-quality education and love that The Learning Tree offers. Our daughter started attending The Learning Tree in 2012 in the nursery class and is currently a straight-A student in middle school. We believe it takes a village to raise a child and we have that village at The Learning Tree. The staff is kind and nurturing and is always available to discuss our daughter’s educational journey. When our daughter was struggling with reading her teacher gave us great advice and tools to help her. This village has guided her academic and social development for the past 10 years. Her self-confidence and great leadership skills are a direct reflection of the cultivation she receives at The Learning Tree. Thank God for The Learning Tree and its commitment to supporting and developing the future leaders of tomorrow.

TLT is a school that one word cannot describe. The teachers provide a sense of security for the students. From my perspective, i can go to the teachers about anything that i may need help with. They are a preforming arts school as well. As a middle school student i can say, i have expanded my vocabulary and perspective on life. I do disagree with certain things like only 8th grade getting Black World Studies rather 7th and 8th grade but 6th and 7th grade are learning what they would have learned in black world studies in Africana Studies which is taught by the new 7th grade teacher. They follow protacal and do anything and everything to keep the children safe. I can say they have a sufficent amount of male teachers in the school overall being that it is a prodominatley girl school

Bring in more male staff, stop teaching girls they can get away with anything because of their gender, stop looking for cheap ways to bring in cash and actually do something smart like rent out the school as a motel during holidays or start a sports team that you can receive sponsors with... not finding lost items and charging students to get them back

This school came highly recommended, but after having 2 children enrolled, from Toddlers through 8th Grade, I can say my experience was sub-par. The teachers are lacking qualifications, the door attendant only swiftly answers the door for parents she likes, the administration can be rude and fail to listen to legitimate concerns if it will make them look bad. I recommend finding another school.

My son attended from 1st thru 8th grades. TLT was the village that we needed. Very nurturing. He learned to love math because of the Teacher's earnest dedication. He gained a strong sense of cultural awareness and pride. He gained lifelong friends and family.
