Fantastic school! Teachers work hard to communicate with parents and have high expectations. Constantly an A school.

I don’t know how this school is 9/10!! 1-They dismiss students at 1:50 each day except Monday and at 12:55 on Mondays.2- teachers rely on parents to teach the children. One day the 3rd grade teacher sent email to parents saying their kids lack in a specific area in math and she can’t help them and it is now the parents’ jobs to go to “google” and search for extra problems to work on so the kids’ level can be boosted in that math area. The email was obviously sent to all parents so it seems all of the class didn’t capture that material from their teacher. My question at that moment was like “WHY AM I SENDING MY CHILD TO SCHOOL THEN??3-for non-English speakers, plz be prepared for your kid to be traumatized when first attending this school. The ELL or ESL classes will not begin until MONTHS after your kid starts this school. 4-yes, teachers and front desk personnels are respectful and they respond to phone calls and emails (not all teachers respond to emails, it just depends on how lucky you are to get a nice one).

Good teachers and diverse but you wouldn’t know it from the events the school puts on. Only those “few”families get to do everything and know what’s going on. Not very inclusive. They talk about creating a community, but it’s only for those who are white, donate money, and insert themselves.

This is an example of the approach to leadership by the principal of this school. The principal sent an e-mail stating, "Students must have a consistent way that they travel home from school. Any deviation from that after-school plan must be provided in writing to the teacher. (The planner is a good way to do this.) Without written information from the parent, we will insist that the student goes home the “regular” way. "This may sound innocuous, but it really means is that students cannot change their way of getting to or from school based upon severe weather conditions at the time of dismissal, unless the weather can be predicted and communicated in writing before school starts (the school is located in Tampa, Florida, lightning capital of the USA). This is a concrete example in which the principal refuses to accomodate the physical realities experienced by students and parents.

My two sons attended this school for a year and a half. They seemed to be doing fine. We never we notified of there being any issues with grades or academic progress. We did notice they were learning a whole lot of horrible behavior from other kids at the school, which is obviously more a parenting problem than school problem, but something to keep in mind.Halfway through their second year we were advised we needed to provide the office with our updated address. We had moved at the beginning of the school year, but figured it would be ok for the boys to finish the year at Chiles rather than uprooting them. We literally moved 5 minutes away into West Meadows, and were driving the kids to and from school. We brought our new address the day before winter break. We were advised that the boys could not return to Chiles after winter break and would need to start at their new school at that time. The boys had no warning whatsoever, and were unable to say goodbye to their friends. We emailed the principal and the area superintendent to see if there was anything we could do and never received a response from either. Rude, unprofessional, and just plain awful. The least they could have done is sent a simple, "No."But the worst part: after enrolling the boys in their new school, their teachers immediately noticed that they were both severely behind in math. Both are now regularly bringing home failing grades to the point we have to pay for tutors for them. They never had this issue before Chiles. I don't know if they're just pushing kids through to keep a high passing grade, or if they are just far behind the rest of the district in math, but it's caused a huge issue for my kids.Luckily, the new school (Clark) has been far better for them. Their attitudes have improved because their peers seem to have better attitudes. The teachers and administrators communicate and seem to truly care deeply for the students. Chiles might be great if your kid can be there for the entirety of their elementary school career (who knows what happens when they get to middle school though...) but brace yourselves if they have to switch schools at some point!

As a recent transplant to FL my child attended private school from PK- 4th grade. We were concerned about the transition to a new state and new school, but the Chiles community is very welcoming. The principal and my child's teachers (one teacher for Reading/LA and another for Math/Science) are very effective. Lots of recognition for scholars when they achieve academically (National Honor Society) or demonstrate good character ( Student of the Month). It is difficult for students who are new to the school in 5th grade to participate in band or other "clubs" as many of these activities are "full" for were selected in 4th grade. I wish the school were a K-8, as it has been a good experience for my child.

We have been very happy at Chiles. Although it is a large school in terms of number of students, it feels very much like a small community, and my children receive very individualized instruction well-suited for them. The teachers are caring and engaged, and so hard-working and dedicated. There are a lot of interesting extracurricular activities, especially for the older grades, and many opportunities for hands-on learning. Chiles is a terrific elementary school!

My son has been at this school for 10 days and everyday there has been an issue. My son is a special needs child and is not perfect, but he is not receiving the support he needs to succeed. My son will be taken to the office or I'm called to pick him up early and the teachers never seem to send work home that he has missed. My son is in the kindergarten and the principal has already given my special needs child a referral, which was unnecessary. The principal expects all students to be perfect and if your child isn't perfect, this is not the school for them. The principal lacks empathy and is insensitive to my child's needs. I can't wait to transfer my son from this school.

From the moment we first walked into this school, I could see why it has received an A for the last decade. My child attended Chiles for 3rd grade and is expected to return for 4th grade. She had a wonderful school year. I love the way the curriculum is taught and how personable her teachers were. The children are given a mutual respect at Chiles and are treated like people, which is awesome to me and aligns with our family's values. The curriculum is challenging, but is always well taught to the students, thus making it achievable. My only complaint would be about the few illnesses my child had throughout the year; I wish the school would alert parents when highly contagious bugs are going around. Other than that, keep up the great work, Chiles!

Chiles has been a wonderful school that has provided an amazing education for my children. The staff goes above and beyond to help children succeed and provides opportunities for families to be involved. The communication is regular. My children are involved in musical programs, science clubs, run club, book club, and other academic competitions. There is always extra for them to be involved in. The school has a family feel. I could not imagine a better experience and education for my kids.

I regret enrolling my child in this school ignoring the comments I found in this website. They are so truth. They are not educators. They do not welcome a child that requires some effort on their side to adjust. If you are a foreign, PLEASE, do no enroll your child here. It is really frustrating and unacceptable that they give NO SUPPORT to the child and expect the kids have behaviors that not even they have.Cant understand how this school is considered an A school.I tried to talk to the principal, ask her to

This is our 5th year attending Chiles elementary and we have had the best experience! The teachers care so much and the administration and staff have the ultimate level of leadership! We love the sense of community and the love and dedication from staff, parents and students!
