This is my child’s third year attending here and we’ve had a great experience. The staff is always friendly and seem to really care about the safety and wellbeing of the students. I have no complaints about the teachers- they kept an open line of communication and offered extra help and advice where needed. Please continue the great work you are doing!

No family enrollment within the classroom. I do not know what my child is learning nor do I get reports until 2-3 months. When asked how can I help my clild I do not receive anything to actually help them, I have to go to outside sources. We are talking kindergarten. My son does not like going to school at kindergarten. Hardly any communication.

Zero Stars. extremely clickish you will not be served here and neither will your student especially if they have special needs ,unless you are not a member of the staff immediate family of the staff or in their friend circle. the ec classroom is all males with ADHD females with special needs are generally punished for their disabilities. they go off pre-existing data that can go as far back as 5 years without any updates to determine services for your children, no updated diagnosis, no updates. They say that they're using therapy tactics that were never delivered by the school if they're pulled from General Ed and go to EC classes all they do is review the work that was done in the General Ed setting , review they do not teach them or deliver any skill sets it doesn't matter if they know the subject matter or not it was reviewed that hour has passed their job is done. there are no Services delivered and they conveniently pull them at the time of day where they would actually get something from their core classes to further broaden their learning Gap. they are focused on testing the whole day revolves around preparing for lready quizzes and preparing for end of grade test. to insure they can get funding. the lunches are nothing but bread and fillers and they serve Pop-Tarts for breakfast they may get protein for breakfast three times a month if they're lucky are is hot dogs on the lunch menu once a week this school deserves an F they're not preparing your students for the real world your children won't be able to think on their own they'll only be able to recite information. if I were looking for a school to send my child to I would choose a charter . they do not have open enrollment in this state. this is the best elementary in onslow county . Did I mention extreme prejudice....

The school teachers, supporting staff and the principal are among the nicest people you have ever seen. The environment at school is very friendly. They know every parent by name (if you ever pick up you kid). The communication is great. The principal responds to every inquiry or suggestion quickly. The teachers are also effective at what they do. My son has learned so much since attending the school. We love the school. Not sure why there are even bad reviews.don’t trust them. This is a great school.

The principal and majority of her staff remind me of the mean girls in highschool. Except you are now "responsible" for my child. The parents are even worse, no consideration for anyone but that must be a side effect of the clique the principal has created. Inner city school would be better.

I just want to have an honest review on here. This School is just your average school. There is nothing spectacular here and the teachers have zero ability to connect with the parents. I hate sending my kids to this subpar school but sadly I have no choice. We are looking to move in order to get them a better education but until then I just wanted to give an honest review.

We love this school. If there is an issue within the classroom, it is quickly solved. There is open communication between the teachers and parents and it’s wonderful. I can message each of my children’s teachers at any time and get a response fairly quickly. I cannot say anything badly about this school.

This was a great year and there was MUCH more communication to parents and a lot less mass fundraising as compared to other years. This is a great school with caring teachers and a good group of children and parents. Swansboro has a great community feel, as does this school. Would highly recommend this school over any other school in Onslow County.

I am very happy to have my kids attend this elementry school. I have had good to great communication with the teachers. My son's 3rd grade teacher this year was exceptionally great at communication with me where my child needed more reenforcement. I love that the staff did many activities with the children this year (talent show, musical, fall festival). It was great to see all the parents and staff come together for the children to have these great things.

Swansboro is a great "hometown" river community and a great elementary school! There are so many caring parents and teachers in this school and community. We do wish there was more principal involvement at PTO meetings and other school events, although the school has improved dramatically with the new principal. There could definetely be more communication with fund raising. So many parents want to give money towards the school, but there was no explanation where the money was going... Other than that, for the most part, the teachers and staff are wonderful and do the best they can with the funds given, especially in this economy. Great 4H after school program as well! Hoping the tests scores continue to move up!

1)Subsequent to my initial post, I was able to speak with the principal of SBES in two meetings. In these meetings, she provided answers and solutions to problems and engaged in very positive discussions. 2)During this last year, PTO events were organized and run by the board w/out committees and (in my experience) the Volunteer Organization was unable to utilize volunteers to their full capacity. Based on a recent PTO/Volunteer meeting, I am hopeful that in the 2011/12 year more parents/volunteers will be able to actively participate. More parents= more revenue. 3)In my own personal opinion, students deserve teachers that treat them with respect, kindness, warmth and compassion. My child had such teachers and was therefore able to excel both academically and socially.

I have worked for other Elementary schools and worked at SES years ago. I know work here at SES as the Secretary/Treasurer and I am overwhelmed at the parent involvement here. It is not like this at some of the other area elementary schools. We have a very supportive PTO who has worked hard to raise money for the school this year and we are very appreciative. Unfortunately, we also have to do fundraisers sponsored by the school to help pay the bills. I was amazed to see what it takes to run a school financially. We are audited twice a year so money is not being misused I promise you. I as a parent I never knew the importance a school fundraiser. My children did participate in some fundraisers but not all. I let them pick and choose which ones we were going to do each year. They understood that they may not win or be able to make it to the Main Event and that was ok. I can promise you that not one of my children require therapy because they didn t get to go to the Main Event , Limo Lunch, or watch another child have a Sno Cone or popcorn in front of them. Please understand that if it was not necessary to do the fundraisers we certainly would not do them.

I have fallen in love with this charming school and the family feeling that permeates from the entire staff. My children have flourished amazingly this school year. I'm glad that we choose Swansboro Elementary. The staff is professional and accomplished in their positions. The principle is supportive and accessible. My children know who she is. At our last school they thought the receptionist was the principle.

I would like to respond to the parent below. The fundraising events that she is complaining about were not sponsored by the PTO. The PTO desperately has tried to help the school raise funds so that they are not needing to rely on other fundraisers during the year. The PTO has been extremely successful in raising $20,000 per year with only 2 fundraising events. The other fundraisers are done by the school. I don't like them either. But they are done because the school badly needs the funds. ALSO, the PTO pretty much begs and pleads for help and only a few parents are actually willing to take the time to come and help. My suggestion to this complaining parent is to stop complaining and get involved.
