Great school environment with strong parent involvement

This is a great grade school overall. Admittedly, the building is terrible, no handicap access, the library doubles at the theater and the music room, and the gym is the cafeteria! Swampscott needs to overhaul this building along with a few other schools. Despite the state of the building, the teachers are top notch! Teachers are constantly attending monthly professional development seminars, and the students are challenged at their individual level. I have had two children go there, with two very different academic abilities, both children had teachers that were able to keep them challenged and excited about learning.

Parents and teachers agree that the environment at Stanley is extremely positive overall and students are challenged and achieve at high levels. They also agree that an area to strengthen is cafeteria noise and, to a small degree lunchroom behavior. The cafeteria is also the gym so it's naturally quite loud. One of the focus areas for me as the new principal will be to be in the cafeteria as frequently as possible to support teachers in maintaining an orderly and positive lunch environment for children and teachers. I am also committed to working with teachers and students in classrooms and in monthly whole school assemblies to build consensus around what a calm, peaceful cafeteria looks, sounds and feels like. I am confident that we can improve the lunch experience for everyone even though truthfully no one is saying that it is so terrible, it just could be a little better.
