We have been extremely happy with our experience at Roosevelt. My son graduated from Roosevelt and is now successfully navigating Middle School. My daughter is a current student and is excelling. Through all of the highs and lows, we have had wonderful support from both the teachers and the staff. The current principle, Mrs. Kyncl, is doing a fantastic job -- the school was awarded a National Blue Ribbon in the Fall of 2023! I think this says it all! "The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high schools based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups...The coveted National Blue Ribbon School award affirms the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content. The National Blue Ribbon School flag gracing an entry or flying overhead is a widely recognized symbol of exemplary teaching and learning."

We adore the new principal of Roosevelt! She called every single family at the school to introduce herself and welcome the children when she started. She also makes such an effort to recognize positive behavior at school by calling home to recognize special achievements and caring behavior. We love this school. There is such an organized, safe, well-maintained, and caring environment. My children are challenged by their teachers academically in an encouraging way. We have loved all the teachers my kids have had! We are thankful that they really go the extra mile! I can't say enough great things about this school!! There is even a super convenient and safe drive through drop off for those winter months. :) Greatest playground around with a bike trail.

I agree with the comments left by another parent of Roosevelt elementary school. Mrs. Bowman shows poor leadership qualities as a Principal. She disliplines other children in front of others making matters worse. Her ways of resolving conflict involving children and parents are very poor. Thank you

The school Principal M. Bowman does not listen to parents and children's concerns. Principal Bowman allows those who cause problems in front of children and parents to countinue this unacceptable behavior on school property. The Principal when issues are addressed only shuns away and does not want to get involved. The school parking lot is designed very poorly making the lot very unsafe for school children and parents entering & exiting the school lot onto public roadways.

Many teachers do not seem to have the skill set for recognizing kids with High Functioning forms of Autism, such as Asperger's Syndrome. They also struggle to teach kids who are non compliant. Emphasis is placed on the behavior, not the reason for the behavior. The teachers who think out side of the box are fabulous (there are a few). 2nd grade teachers seem less likely to work with students who don't fit into the cookie cutter learning situation - pushing disruptive kids out of class instead of helping them. Lakeshore Public Schools, in general, is not friendly to kids with learning disabilities - pushing them into Special Ed Classes if they are severe enough, or pushing the High Functioning Autistics and kids with reading/coding issues out of the district to other districts with better services, or to homeschooling.

My child is currently in 1st grade. We have had two teachers that exceed expections in many ways (Ms. Deeb and Ms. Huisjen) and are lacking in nothing. I don't think we could have picked a better elementary school to start off our daughters education. The principal remembered my daughters name from the first time she met her outside the school on the sidewalk and has greeted her by name ever since. Academically I have seen great things as well.

Had higher hopes for this school based on the "9" rating. Not impressed at all. Teacher's notes contain misspelled words, events and fund-raisers are disorganized to the point that I will no longer participate. Principal does not carry a strong, calm air with her, but rather gives the impression of dealing with a person with ADHD. Yes, there is participation in this school, and the principal could be the most intelligent woman on the face of the earth, but if it is impossible or uncomfortable to deal or interact with her and her staff then it doesn't mean much. The odd dismissal and parent pick-up is another reason why I won't rate higher than 3 stars. I do not appreciate being yelled at (by said principal) while in my car for not understanding such an odd system. If they do not like the traffic they create, then a different system should be implemented. Perhaps they could start by re-evaluating the bussing system so that it is better utilized. The kids' stops are at high-traffic, high-speed roads. (the busses do not enter subdivisions or apt. complexes). That was an absolute deal-breaker for me. My child will not stand on the side of a major road to wait for a bus.
