As an alumni and a parent Upton Middle School is a fantastic place to bring your student. They have passionate teachers who are consistently finding ways to improve educating students. The school district does have some politics that any school district would have but as classrooms sizes have grown they have responded by hiring qualified professionals. I will admit that the drop off and pick up could be better but overall it's a fantastic school to be apart of.

When we transferred our daughter from private to public school, we were very nervous about the transition. The staff and faculty were amazing. They addressed all our concerns and made themselves available for any questions we had. Our daughter is very shy and reserved but she was easily able to make friends and has excelled in all her classes. Most importantly, she loves her teachers. They do a fantastic job of engaging the students and making learning the material as hands-on and interactive as possible. Now in her second year, we would not choose any other school in the area. Upton is truly the best of all worlds in this small corner of Michigan, with a wonderful balance of academics, arts, athletics, and extracurricular clubs.

This school has too many things wrong with it. The drop off in the morning is much too complicated, too many staff members are rude and mean to the kids--some to the point of making the kids cry--and their rules are insane. The students are not allowed to have their phones out at any point during the school day, (if it's seen, you get yelled at and it is taken away) but they aren't allowed to have it out after the final bell rings, when they're outside, or on the bus. How then are they supposed to call for a ride home? There are no set times for any extracurricular activities in this school either, so you never know when your child will be done, and if you're tight on time and can't get a hold of your child due to the unnecessary phone rules, it complicates things. I will never send another child to this school, and I highly suggest you do the same thing, especially if you have a child that doesn't do well with getting yelled at, because even the kids that follow every rule will get yelled at in front of a whole class at least once about a grade or missing assignment. Which, I might add, is illegal.

I moved from Iowa and was not so satisfied with quality of education provided in school. My son don't have any homework and there is no complaint from school. When I visited school, teachers are saying he is doing fine. When I asked about curriculum and books, they mentioned me looking into website. Overall I felt, expectations are low from school so the education quality. Comparatively in Iowa, we used to have 1:1 parent teacher meeting quarterly with detailed discussion about student and his progress. When I am looking at all year results, it shows sharp decline in education quality after 2011 for Upton Middle School which is great concern for me as a parent.
