As a former student of this school, I can say that this was not the best experience ever. In fact, it was the longest 4 years of my life, and very miserable. Early on, they said some kind of thing that I had a disability of some sort, which I did not. I was just a five year old, like goddam. Then I had to see a special teacher, and my kindergarten teacher said that I was very hard and there was something wrong with me. That's what a lot of the school staff thought about me. Legit almost got sent to a special school. And 4th grade was the WORST. Another thing is that girls never got in as much trouble as boys. But isn't that at all schools anyways? Overall, I would not recommend this school if your child is a bit difficult sometimes, as the school will single them out and mark them as a special needs kid. P. S. Although a lot of this review is negative, I have had some fond memories of the place.

Our experience with Houghton Elementary has been a very positive one. My daughter's teachers are caring yet firm and challenging yet entertaining. They really seem to care about the success of their students. From what I've seen and what my daughter has told me, there is a lot of fun brought into the education process. I also very much appreciate the PTO funded online math and reading programs that the students can use at home to practice or advance their skills. After hearing about so many schools across the country that have defunded the arts, I was also pleasantly surprised to find such well done art and music programs at Houghton. My only real complaint with the school is that there is not a school librarian; the library is instead run by parent volunteers. I've learned, however, that is the norm in this area.

Living in the Town of Sterling has many benefits but I have not found Houghton Elementary School to be one of them. I have recently transferred my children to another school. My experiences in the school left me feeling uncomfortable, from interactions with the school secretary thru interactions with the Principals. Some teachers were exceptional but it seemed like they had a lack of support from administration as well.
