Overall, New Dorp is a good school. Most people there are nice. However, the school does not give the necessary information on gradation requirements. Not many people know that 100 hours of community service is needed to graduate. I did not know either until someone told me. All they said was 44 credits are a requirement. The school should tell you that service hours are mandatory. There are students in 11th grade who do not know about the hours. I mean no harm in this review, I just wanted to bring awareness to this. Thank you for taking the time to read my review!

This school is just all around a great school. Every teacher is willing to help you do your best. The teachers, guidance counselors, deans, the principal are all great and want to see you do the best you can. I highly recommend this school!

NDHS is a standard high school with programs that are based on students' future aspirations and interests. With my current knowledge of this school, the majority of the work that has been provided is busy work. The work provided does not seem to be tailored for students who may be struggling or require a higher level of work. While the teachers seem to be okay, there needs to be a higher level of work for students who desire more of a challenge. Students that are at least above average in intellect may end up being bored with the curriculum since varying levels of work do not seem to appear often in each course. Meanwhile, there does not seem to be a wide understanding of the academic, social and emotional needs of children that are above average intelligence. However, there are a few teachers who seem to be more open than others. While this school is decent, the level of work that is provided to students in the honor programs and AP classes could be increased. If anything, try to have gifted students apply to more challenging programs so they won't be bored. Unfortunately, the ever-present attitude towards gifted students is similar to the typical stigma of being a "know-it-all" or "stand-offish," which can make students feel awkward despite the fact that not everyone possesses this attitude. Overall, NDHS is a typical modern-day high school that has room for improvement although decent enough to get a degree from.

The administration at this school is a complete disgrace. No one is ever available or are in constant meetings. There is very little teacher involvement. My child flourished once leaving this school!

I used to attend this school, I am now being homeschooled. I started off very well at this school, always grades of 90 and above! I have recently (1 year) been professionally diagnosed with clinical depression, GAD, social anxiety, OCD, BPD, and panic disorder. This caused my grades to suffer tremendously. Eventually, teachers began to pester me about my grades and I would say I was under a lot of stress and they would give me an extra day and I really would try my damn best to get things done I was damn proud of my grades! Unfortunately, I couldn't; I stopped doing my work and started skipping. The days when I actually went to school I had notes from either my psychologist or psychiatrist explaining that I was (and still am, honestly) going through a rough time. My #1 problem with the school is this: nobody cared about my wellbeing. I would tell teachers my actually problems, come in with notes from the doctors and they would just get pissy for me not having my work. My guidance counselor was no help either; she often criticized me and even said she felt sorry that my parents had a child like me. This school screwed me up. I wish I could write more, but character limit. Horrible.

I would not recommend this school to anyone. It's so difficult to get in contact with the school. If you are lucky enough to get in contact than they still don't help to inform you on anything that you may have asked about. They are also a very over populated school which causes a lot of choas and destruction within the hallways. Since the school is overpopulated they have many teachers and staff members teaching subjects that they are unfamiliar with.

I highly recommend New Dorp High School. This school is a wonderful school to be apart of. My daughter is in her fourth year attending this school and loves going to school everyday. She has taken many challenging courses as well as college course to prepare her for college and for her future. Throughout her four years she has admired and looked up to her teachers who have helped her grow and learn so much. As a parent who is very involved in this school, I have seen how New Dorp is run inside and out and I am extremely impressed with how Ms. DeAngelis runs this school with a firm hand but in a loving way her staff and students. I have never had a problem reaching out to a teacher or staff with any concern or issue I encountered. My only wish is that teachers would attend the PTA meetings and there were more parent involvement. Parent involvement in a childs schooling benefits the child and the school.

I see the kids come out of that establishment every day and cannot fathom what it must be like for the quiet children who for whatever reasons end up going there. There is clearly no discipline, teachings of respect or control period. The kids have filthy mouths and the conversations are always about "jumping" someone tomorrow. I don't understand how it is even possible to get an education in a place like that.
