If you are a parent or guardian seeing this website with a child who is autistic, has ADHD, or any other debilitating mental/physical disability NEVER GO HERE!! This place is horrible and not suited at all for children with special needs. They do not offer things that will help such as noise canceling headphones, teachers who can actually control their class, and special needs kids are so often overlooked. Teachers also hold favoritism for the children who aren’t even doing good, make the class disruptive, and don’t have the option to put them out because the unorganized principals don’t let them. Then since it’s just the student they never have the full story and will just send them back to class like nothing was wrong. Nobody listens in this awful place! There’s also so much bullying going around I don’t even feel at peace when I walk into the building everyday. Often times I fake sick to stay home just so I don’t have to go there. Please don’t take your kids here. For the health of your kids take them somewhere better! Have been attending since kindergarten to 8th grade. Never liked it. Never will.

I taught at this school for a short period of time. The kids are out of control and every comment that claims "teachers don't teach" it's because teachers are not able to teach due to student behavior. A teacher's role is to teach not to parent. Students that are 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 years old should know how to behave in a classroom setting and if they don't the parent is at fault. With so many distracting behaviors even the best behaved student misses out. Having taught at other schools, this school is far below them all in academics and behavior. I could not believe how low the students were. Unfortunately, most charter schools in Detroit are like this. I would never, ever, ever send my child to this school or any charter / public school in Detroit.

I would not recommend this school to any parent or prospective teacher. The middle school has one set of broken laptops and zero technology in the classrooms with the exception of overhead projectors and teacher-purchased electronics. Also, students only receive art and gym and no other specials. Spanish is an online computer program. A high teacher turnover rate means that teachers come and go every school year and students are then placed with new teachers or long-term subs. Teachers are overworked and there is a lack of consistency in most policies and procedures, as well as minimal prep time. There is also an inequity in teacher and administrative expectations due to a high volume of upper administration hiring close friends and family. Students who physically fight are still asked back to the district even though they may pose a potential threat to other students. This school's focus is on numbers and enrollment rather than on academic integrity.

The girl's should be able to wear pants like the boys do. They want the girl's to come to school in the winter with skirts on and knee high socks, its to cold for that, i wouldn't want my child getting sick. They can't even wear pants under they skirts with out being a problem. My friend child got suspended because she wore some pants to school under her skirt and didn't take them off because it was cold . I mean like if a person is cold let them wear what they wanna wear, it would be a good school if the girl's could wear pants like the boys . At other schools boy & girls get to wear pant's why they can't wear them at Crescent Academy ?

I currently have 2 children that attend the Pre-K program at the former Our Lady of LaSalette campus. While I don't see a separate listing for that location, I think its important to talk about the school system as a whole because my decision to send them to the pre-k campus was somewhat based on some of reviews I saw here. I have nothing but good things to say about the pre-k program and its because of the dedication, skillset and competency of the teachers and staff that I personally experienced, that I would be willing to enroll my children in the kindergarten program in Southfield. The responsibility to educate our children is a collective effort on the part of parents, teachers, administrators, and the elected officials who rally for programs like these. As a parent, I want nothing but the best for my children. And if challenges occur, and they will, I want to know that they are surrounded by caring and qualified individuals who are capable of steering them down the correct path; whether it pertains to writing, reading, problem solving, reasoning, and socialization. This type of partnership is paramount in building a lasting foundation and setting expectations for adults as well as children. In addition, pre-k offered a workshop designed to engage parents and provide tools to help reinforce learning at home. The only problem I could see was that out of over 100 students, less than 10 parents participated in this program on a regular basis. But despite the low number of parent participation, the school still offered the program. Wow. I have only good things to say. I wish that I could name all of the individuals who regularly play a role in my children's development but there isn't enough room. And I wouldn't want to discredit anyone else's experience just because it didn't mirror mine. But I can say that life often times gives you back what you put into it. Stop the teachers and the assistants. Talk with them. Ask them their opinions. Ask them for feedback on how you can better work with your child at home. Stay in their faces. Care about them. They care about your child. Engage in the process and set your expectations high so that you can make a solid choice for your child's future.

I'm very satisfied with Crescent Academy. I was very nervous about sending my child to this school after reading some of the reviews on this site. Currently I have 2 children (3rd & K) nearing the end of their 2nd year at this school and are doing great! They both enjoy, are happy going here & love their teachers. The admin & staff do an excellent job at keeping communication open with parents. Its's a big help to me that breakfast and lunch are free. After my kids first year here, they were both promoted to the elite program. Dress down days are $1 which is completely voluntary. Bullying & bad behavior are discouraged. Students are taught to respect & be kind to others. The only thing that I dislike is that I have to drop my kids off at 2 different campuses. Other than, I truly like this school. They are expanding & getting better every year. I believe if you are involved in your child's education that you shouldn't have a problem at this school. I've only experienced kindness & professionalism from the staff & teachers and especially Ms. Cupidore, the principal.

Okay So Crescent Is Not A Good School. The Teachers Barely Teach. The Lunch Makes Me Sick. Literally. I've Had to Stay Home Plenty of Times Because Of This. The Teachers Accuse You Of Things you Didn't Even Do & On Top Of All That, The Bad Students Get Away With Things. Don't Go to Crescent. I'm An 8th Grader And this Is My Last Year. Been There Since Kindergarten. I've Never Liked It.

I love Crescent acadamy, This is my daughter who is in the 8th grade 3rd school but not by choice. Woodmont Academy her original school closed and I made the God aweful mistake of sending her to Bradford academy. She will tell you that was the worst year of her life. From Ms Cupidore down to house keeping, everyone is great! I love that they actually care about the children and their future. You don't get that these days. My husband and I made the decision years ago that we would move out of MI once she is in High School but We are stuck not because we Love this school so much. If you want to send your child to a school that actually cares, challenges, and teaches them I highly recmend Crescent Academy.

My 7th grader and I are very happy with this school! The staff is friendly and very supportive. The class sizes can be smaller but my daughter has made Principle's list and National Juniors Honor Society!!!! Transportation is provided and safe!!! Like every school there's problems but we can work together to improve and make changes. I've seen the changes over the last four years and is very pleased!

This school is a joke....they offer after school care and Saturday school which are incentives to parents. There are many dedicated teachers at this institution, but they face struggles with unqualified administration and daily struggles ( lack of classroom supplies, long days and teaching towards standardized tests to maintain state funding). The special needs program can not accommodate students with severe disabilities. Save yourself a headache, send your kids elsewhere or DPS. God Bless the teachers who work here they are dedicated, but I would not recommend this school regardless and would NEVER send my own children here. -former teacher

I love Crescent Academy! My daughter went there for preschool and kindergarten. She is returning for 1st grade next month. The administration and staff are caring and hands on. The environment is safe and I would reccomend this school to anyone. I lived on the westside on the border of Redford and I am moving near East English Village. I love the school so much that I am willing to drive her to bus stop on the westside so that she can remain there, Ms. Cupidore and Ms. Brown worked with me by trying to get a bus stop close as possible to the east side and I really appreciate this.

I worked as a substitute teacher at this school and was offered a job but I turned it down. The kids were out of control, and the higher the grade level, the worse they behaved. I will admit that this school is in a lousy location. Kids need an OUTDOOR SPOT for gym and other classes but parents need to be involved. So many parents simply don't care if you tell them that their child is disrespectful, cussing, has behavioral problems, etc. which is a shame because the brightest kids are the ones that act out the most. Charter schools in general overwork and underpay their teachers, this school is no exception. Teachers that work here are so stressed out that I was called every week. However, students need to be challenged and then maybe they will behave or disciplined. Uniforms seem to help take the focus off fashion trends but that's not enough. In my experience, if a parent has to send a child to a charter school, yes, the child has special needs, but it's up to the parent to be proactively involved. Some of the parents treated the school as a babysitting service. I've read the other reviews and the administrative staff were never rude to me but they were definitely overworked.

I have 2 children at this school. My 8th grader was 1 of 12 8th graders who actually went on to 9 grade out of 60 kids, the rest were held back. that's a school problem not a student problem. They are not equipped to handle ANY TYPE of ADHD or Autism students. All these resources are not provided until 3rd so they hold the 2nd graders back after giving a final exam worth 50% of their grade. That means you can have a C average child who gets a D on the final and they will be retained. Or a D average child who gets a B or A on 1 test and go on to next grade level. 1 test determines pass or fail, these are facts. Keeping a child in 2nd grade for 1 test is beyond careless, it's messing with their mental and social skills. And again help don't start till 3rd grade. Which is Saturday school and after school help. On top of the 9 hour day they just put in. What's worse is there was no intervention why because it was 4th quarter, all the other 3 the child was passing. This school will STRESS your child out and you to. It's not a healthy school for a child mentally. And my child passed, but will not be back next year. Some point at this school your child is going to be held back a year

I posted the last comment, but remember this school is VERY money greedy! They give you dress down to wear whatever, but you have to pay a buck. On the last week they made you pay for the whole week. So, I advise you!

Cresent Academy is not a good school at all. The principal and its staff are very unprofessional and are very rude. They do not care about the kids education at all, instead they worry only about the money. In my opinion this school should not even be opened next year.

Cresent Academy is not a good school. The Parents who are on this site claiming that it is are parents who do not want to push to find a better school for their children. This school is not equipped to educate 9th 10th or 11th Graders. Not to mention that they are not Qualified to Educate children with Special Needs. If they tell you that they are able to, they're only Lying and you had better run. Over all it's not a good school, they will put your child on the honor role and you know your child does not belong there. They have to keep a certain standard to be able to stay open, that's what you do not know. Ms. Cupidore is Deceptive, so be careful and watchful of her. They have no Curriculum activities for the Students. Young Adults should not be mixed with Elementary children.

I am very displeased with CRESCENT Academy special needs team. Also the teacher envolvment with our kids is limited because of the school size, its overload. They have no patience with our children. I WOULD NOT recomend this school to anyone.
