Soquel High School is amazing! It starts with the admin and staff, includes the students, the district and the community. I am a teacher and see a lot of the forest for the trees. I love the way the admin and staff honor the students and their work, offer unending support, and communicate with parents when needed. As part of the school site council, I get to see, and be a part of, the behind the scenes process. I have the honor of working with admin, staff and students to during these meetings and always feeling so proud and honored to be a part of Soquel High's process.

I am a parent of 2 girls. My oldest graduated last year and is an electrical and computer engineering major at WPI in MA. I think she took almost every AP class offered at Soquel, one or two at Cabrillo. She was very well prepared for college. She made the dean’s list her first semester. My youngest is a current junior. She is doing very well in all her classes and is involved in sports and other clubs. I expect she will continue on with higher education as well and do great things. As a member of the site council and other committees and task forces throughout the district, I have had the pleasure of serving with, and getting to know the principal, assistant principal, some teachers and staff. I’m always impressed and happy to hear about and see for myself, the dedication and expertise we are lucky to have at Soquel. The effort they put in to make school challenging, engaging and inclusive for all is exemplary. I have been very happy with my family’s experiences there.

Our son got all A's at Soquel High, but told us he didn't learn anything. He felt like the classes were two years behind. My husband and I tried talking to the councilor and principal, but they were no help at all and didn't care. We felt if our son continued he would not feel challenged and develp boredom. Soquel High fails the students who are very smart or who needs personalized teaching. When a teen is bored in school this can lead down a very dark road. Even though our son was constantly reading and studying material on his own at home (he is extremely self motivated) we immediately took him out of Soquel High and put him in an alternative highschool. This program customized to his educational needs and fast pace. He immediately felt challenged and has a love for learning again! He is starting his sophomore year and will start taking dual enrollment at Cabrillo College in which he will get credit for both high school and college. The only thing he liked about Soquel High were his friends, but he still sees them and he is surrounded by friends his own age by getting involved with climbing and other outdoor sports. He rides his bike to classes and gets PE credits! As a parent, we are responsible for our kids education, don't rely on a system that doesn't work. School is for learning, not a prison or finding social stimulation.

As with public school some teachers are fantastic and others lacking inspiration. Overall our children had a great experience and Soquel helped prep them for college
