Our son attended VDV from kindergarten to fifth grade. All of the teachers gave him and the other students the love and the attention needed to make their education experience outstanding. The curriculum was exactly what our son needed, and if there were any adjustments required, the faculty made the required adjustments. Me. Reavy and Mrs. Hayes (when she was there) both provided exemplary care and service for the entire school.

VDV is a larger elementary school serving a very diverse community. Despite the challenges, they are able to offer high quality P.E., art, music, Spanish, coding, and library instruction in addition to core curriculum. Character education is reinforced throughout the year, and the staff works together to create a strong sense of community. My white kids with college educated parents and no particular special needs are getting everything they need to succeed in school and become decent human beings. I can't speak for families from less privileged backgrounds, but efforts to differentiate instruction are apparent in classrooms and in the support staff and programming available. There is an active PTO and a positive feeling among the staff, students, and community. We're very happy with our experience at VDV so far, and all of my neighbors with children currently there are too.

If I could give this school 0 stars I would. my son fell and hit his head at the begunning of the day. The school nurse sent him back to class with a concussion - he was at school the WHOLE DAY with a concussion not one person noticed!!! This school is atrocious. Earlier this year a student told my son he had a knife, my son has been bullied by another student. My son has adhd which means he has trouble focusing and sitting still his teacher instead of helping him and trying to work with him punishes him for these things that he cannot control. This is the worst school - if you can do NOT send your child there!!!

Wonderful teachers at the school. Had several children go through the school and do very well. The administration is caring, attentive and committed. The parental involvement is very good. Many staff members are also community members who are very involved and committed to academic excellence.

I cannot say enough about this school and it's administration and staff treat our children like their own. I believe a good student must have active parent involvement both in and out if school as well and they have always made both my children feel welcomed and challenged at the same time. Honestly, cannot say enough about this school. Looking forward to another great year!

I love VanDerveer ES! My son is special needs and has flourished in this school. The teachers and CST are dedicated and just love the kids as their own. My son, has been in this school for almost two years (preschool) and has now transitioned to mainstream classroom. I am forever greatful to the staff and specially Ms. Michelle Turnbull.
