Smyrna Elementary School is a fantastic school that provides a well-rounded education. The teachers are highly knowledgeable, supportive, and always encourage students to do their best. They create a positive learning environment that makes studying enjoyable and engaging.

We have been very happy with Smyrna Elementary. We considered sending our children to a private school when we moved here, largely due to the rating. However after visiting the school (it's a very nice campus), meeting staff, as well as our children's teachers, we were willing to see how it went. We have been happy with their progress and have nothing but good things to say about Smyrna Elem. On top of that, our kids love it there. They have an active PTA and numerous family events throughout the year that have really solidified our decision. We don't feel as if the greatschool rating accurately reflects the school's quality nor the quality of the staff. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Smyrna Elementary to anyone.

Our experience with this school has been a mixed bag. For our oldest child it has been an overall great experience. For our youngest child with special needs, it has been a completely different story. There is very little support, empathy, understanding for children who are not on the same level as their neurotypical peers. Particularly, the administration and assistant principals leave much to be desired and could do with some intense training on how to handle children with disabilities. Ronald Crawford (assistant principal) has no business whatsoever working with children of any age and how he got this position is mind boggling. He lacks even basic common sense and blatant disregard for a child’s needs are unforgivable. We will be looking for another school for the next school year.

We have really enjoyed our time at Smyrna Elementary. We have children in the Dual Language Immersion and it has been fantastic. It is so fun to watch our children learn about new cultures, explore a new language, and recognize it when we are out and about. The front staff at Smyna is always kind and welcoming and quick to help you out. The support of the school from local businesses and families gives it a very tight-knit feeling. We love the diversity of the school and the way that the school celebrates that diversity with different events throughout the year. We couldn't be happier that we decided to live in Smyrna's boundaries!

We are pleased with the quality education that our child is receiving at Smyrna Elementary. We also love the diversity of the school. We realized the less rating of school is due to recent establishment of school compared to other schools in cobb county.

Very poor, Spanish-speaking students are overly accommodated

The school grade tells it all. This school is overpopulated. The student teacher ratio in classes are 25 to 1. Children are not given time to become efficient with one concept before moving to the next, even when many students are failing. The principal is amazing, but I hope the finds a way to help this school succeed. I just wish there were more resources available for our children at Smyrna Elementary.

We have had two kids enrolled in 1st and 4th grade since August and are absolutely overjoyed with the school so far. Friendly, welcoming, competent and caring staff in classrooms and offices. Our kids are making daily progress and come home happy every day. Great school.

Smyrna Elementary is a great school. Coming from a private school I had some reservations. the staff and teachers are great. The PTF is really involved in making sure the school is getting what it needs to advance and be excellent. My daughter loves it and so do I. I do not regret my decision!!!! come visit us and see for yourself!!!!

My son has attended SES since the beginning. He has excelled every year and loves the staff just as much as I do. The principal greets us every morning during car pool hours with a warm smile. Its great to witness how attentive he is towards his students, parents, and staff! Great school!

As a parent of 2 children at Smyrna Elementary and have been there since the doors opened 3 years ago, I am thrilled and proud that my children go to school there. We have a diverse population, which I believe will prepare my children for the real world, make them more competitive and more compassionate when they are adults. My children have friends of all races, socioeconomic classes and religions. We are a Leader in Me School (Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People), which provides our children with daily lessons in learning and demonstrating what it means to be a leader. My youngest is in the new Dual Immersion program that the school started this year where he gets Spanish half the day and English half the day- will be fluent in 2 languages by the time he leaves Smyrna Elementary. Our Administration, Teachers and Staff are the most outstanding, dedicated, loving staff you could ever wish for as a parent. We have a very active PTA with 500 members and a Foundation in place that has built an amazing Learning Garden and raising money as we speak for our STEM Lab and to provide iPads in all classrooms. I am not sure how Great Schools comes up with its ratings, but I would encourage everyone to not judge a school by a score an outside independant company gives it and get in the school to see what is going on within the walls of this school! It should be a 10 in my opinion!

Let me first say I am shocked at the current 4 out of 10 stars Smyrna Elementary has received (10/26/2015). I know the State of Georgia has a specific set of guidelines for these "scores", but I find them truly off the mark. My son, who is in the gifted program (for parent's who worry their kids won't be challenged enought at SES) and is thriving beyond belief. He standardized test scores are always above 90%, he has a diverse group of friends, and feels safe and loved. I don't who or how these scores are compiled, but let me tell you, there are several 8,9, and 10 schools, ones that I attended as a child, that are so full of drugs, bullying and sex, there is NO WAY I would send my kids there. My advise is to look way beyond this rating when judging a school.

This is our first year. My daughter is in 3rd grade, and although this is only the 3rd week of school she loves it. On Saturday she couldn't wait until Monday for school. Tonight when she said her prayers, she thanked God for her teacher (Ms. McIntire) and her principle for caring about the students. This truly brought a smile to my face and made me feel like I made the right decision when I decided to remove her from the charter school that she attended for the last 3 school years. She is learning a great deal and is also apart of the target (gifted) program. We are excited for what's to come!

We moved in to this school district because we were made aware of the high level of parent involvement. It was always fun and exciting to be involved in our sons kindergarten activities and we are proud of the young and energetic teachers. My wife and I have recently discovered that greatschools.org has listed Smyrna elementary as a 4 out of 10. To say the least we were confused and saddened by this news. We can only write it off as it being the first year the school was an operation. It's still just so hard to believe that the school would rate so low! We understand that the score is based on the metrics of testing averages but after visiting many of the other schools in the area we chose Smyrna elementary mainly on a gut feeling. We believe what conjured such feeling was the presence of a youthful and passionate energy amongst the teachers we met. Furthermore, At that time the school had not yet been rated because they were within their first year of operation. In conclusion, it's sad to see a low rating on such a great school. Our five-year-old son had blossomed during his time there. We could not help to compare the level of his learning ability and how he applies what he has learned with his cousins that are his same age. Our son's performance has consistently been up to par or exceeded his cousins homeschool and private school standards. If this message is read by any of the staff or teachers there at Smyrna elementary we would just like to let you know that we are proud of you and thank you for the wonderful memories. We look forward to seeing you next school year! - A parent

I have been heavily involved in our school since it opened two years ago. The kids are great, the teachers are awesome, the grounds and building are top notch, and the programs like "leader in me" and "watch dogs" are excellent for the kids and parents. Test Score are such a small part of the overall picture and are only a reflection of the fact we have a significant number of transient students (parents who often work construction and move frequently), and students whee English is their second language. This is a great school and our well balanced diversity and unified love for our community of Smyrna is what makes us really great. Very active parent group is also a great aspect of this school.

My son is attending kindergarten this year. I can not say enough good things about this school! I love how they do dropping off and picking up! I know that no one else will be able to leave with my child. My son is in Mrs. Kniffin's class and she is absolutely amazing! i couldn't ask for a better teacher! i wish she could teach my son every year :) we are moving out of the area and i am so sad that my other children wont be able to have her for their teacher. i love the leader in me program! My son is blossoming into a smart and independent student.
