This is a terrible school!! They throw your child out the classroom when they don’t like what they say to them! No matter if it’s a fact or just a child being a child this is a disgrace to the well being of children that go there and the staff just simply do not care! They need a revamping of there school politics and an assessment of academics and there staffs ability to educate our kids! Being the fact that it’s 55 percent blacks and 78 percent low income students is this why they don’t care?! Someone needs to PAY ATTENTION AND HELP! Our kids deserve education!!! These scores speak for themselves and I’f teachers salaries are $ 48,000 a year, Why aren’t our children awarded more education or better educational Providers? Why are we paying 50-75$ a week per child for before and after school care so we can work to provide for our children when they aren’t even brushing the surface of their educational needs! We need answers NOT EVERY BLACK PARENT OR ANY PARENT FOR THIS MATTER is a one that don’t care some of us Care About the well being and educational needs of our children! I cannot work the hours I need because I have to educate my own child! What are we paying them for?!

My experience at this school has been very positive and the staff is amazing. What I have seen is that this school goes above and beyond to help your child succeed.

I am reading the reviews and I can see it’s been from a few years ago. I can tell it’s so different from before as I am a sub teacher and I go to numerous schools. I would like to say that I’m very happy at Abney. This is the school that I’m subbing at more than others and the teachers, staff, Tabitha in the front office are so kind. The teachers are very helpful and kind. I see how the teachers are with their students, and they are so wonderful with them and you can see how much they truly care for them. I don’t have children at Abney, (I live in another school zone) however I would send my own children there, that’s how comfortable I am. I’m just leaving an honest review from someone from the inside who is behind the scenes.

I gave Abney two stars because there is no half star ability or it would be less. I pulled my son out of this school due to the bullying and the vulgarity he was hearing daily. There is a principal and two assistant principals and none of them have availability or time for parents. My son is very smart and when he would ask questions for clarification his teacher would rudely respond and say then call him disrespectful. They do not take bullying serious many of the kids there have no morals and careless about listening to adults or staff. The office staff are great and the highlight of the school. This elementary school is very large at 900 kids and is out of control. They have also had to expel kids for drugs, alcohol and weapons as per assistant principal. Do not send your kids here I took a chance sending my kid here and it was a mistake!!!!

This is my kids first year here at Abney, Teachers are rude to the kids, but get upset when the kids are rude back. i have had 3 incidents with a 4th grade teacher and one with a 1st grade teacher. These teachers are always helpful to the kids that are so called "smartest" in the class. They do not help students when they need help with a paticular subject, they tell the students to figure it out on your own. My 4 th grader is lacking in Reading because her teacher does not explain the lessons. They do not contact the parent or try to set up an appointyment to figure out what can be done together to better the childs grade in the class. They just ignore kids. My sons 3rd grade teacher is awesome, she is tyhe only one i feel is helpful and lets you know your childs progress. They write children up for anything, the teachers have favorite kids in their classrooms, it is very unfair to a child that sits in class and see this type of behavior it makes them feel left out. They can not play on the play ground like normal kids . its just pitiful, i am looking for another school district for my home so that i can get my kids away from the ZOO,

Lunch is served so early you can still order from the breakfast menu from the fast food joints. What makes that so bad is that there are teachers that will not allow the students to have snack time. That's a long time to go without food. When i was a kid, i think that was illegal. 4 hrs tops. Teachers are too well guarded. Can't sit in on a class. I have never heard of that. 2 teachers in particular have nothing about their attitude that says they love children. You can meet with the principle easily but you can't see your child's class live in person. What are they hiding? They aren't scared to send home we need money material though. So my kid is beyond starving by the time schools out. Teachers need days notice to only schedule after school meetings. I'm gonna donate money? Knock it off. After care is another money scam. Too much. If you only need before care you still have to pay for both. Best thing about school is the front office staff. Downhill from there.

Dreadful, horrible school! Keep your kids away, if you value their love of learning and your sanity. It's impossible to find out necessary information or get a straight answer from anyone in this place about even the most basic questions.

My daughter has been in is this school for about 6 months now and I am beyond disappointed in the experience. It is impossible to speak with either teachers or staff, they isolate themselves beyond a layer of low level, rude and disrespectful "helpers". The teachers never come forward with the students, and do not make themselves available to interact with the parents. It is impossible to get a simple return phone call from the administration. The only thing my daughter has actually learned this year is how to take the leap test. There is no interest in teaching for understanding, which would lead to better leap scores by default, just rote memorization of leap practice material. We are giving serious consideration to homeschooling after this experience. Just yesterday I found out that my daughter's teacher has been basically bribing the students into behaving with sugary snacks - which we were not notified would be given and were not given the option to approve or disapprove, yet parents are not allowed to send such foods for snacks as they are disallowed by the school handbook. I have never had a positive interaction here and my daughter's education is suffering to boot!

I'm a certified substitute teacher so I go to different schools & OMG I told them in the office never to call me again to sub for their teachers there ever again. The kids are very rough, I had kids throwing desks at me, (2nd graders) no respect for authority or adults. They don't respect their teachers so how will they respect the subs. Absolutely chaotic. The teachers are there for the paychecks they look worn out. They don't even ask if we (subs) need anything like at other schools. The teachers are rude & act as if they don't want to be there, I just heard yelling & yelling from class to class. It was the worst experience ever. I feel bad for students that are wanting to learn! Don't send your children to Abney! Scary & I'm an adult! Seriously I'm 100 percent serious. Never again will I sub there!!!!!
