I am a grandparent to a soon to be first grader at Slaughter and I will say that from all I've seen and heard from my daughter and granddaughter this year, Slaughter Elementary is the place to be. It's refreshing to see happy faces when I enter the building and to see how much my granddaughter has learned in just one short school year. She had a great teacher and never wanted to miss a single day. Having worked for DISD for 20 years prior, I know that it's not all rosey and that all teachers are not amazing. But I give Slaughter a thumbs up for this review :)

This school has gone down hill over the last two years. SES used to be a wonderful school- but with election of a new superintendent of education as well as changes to the school board, changes have been implemented to bring all of the schools in the FAILING East Fel school district in line. Why in the world would they think it smart to take the ONE AND ONLY A rated school and try to bring it in line with the failing schools in the rest of the district? Many of our wonderful long time teachers have left leaving us with teachers who are either biding their time at SES or are fresh out of college. We still have a few great teachers, quite a few mediocre ones, and even more just plain ole grumpy unorganized shouldn't be teaching BAD teachers (who yell and demean students). The principals are super nice but do not run a tight ship. I see private school in our very near future.

I was a substitute teacher in this school and I am currently a parent of this school everything is wonderful. The teacher are so nice and pleasant to work with. They give my son the extra help he needs as he has adhd. They are very patient with him and do not get frustrated with him because I know first hand it can be difficult to get across to him. I wish that the school went all the way threw 12th grade and had the same type of teacher for those grades. The teacher are very dedicated to the students as well as the rest of the staff. The teacher are there for the students not just for a pay check like I have seen at other schools. I think other schools could learn from this little school. Respect, responsibility , manners, and accountability are enforced strongly.
