The test scores are way too low. There is very little engagement with the staff and students. Also, they allow racism to run rampant in the school and allow other students to bully and commits act of violence against upstanding students.

This school represents the opposite of what a great school should be. Instead of forming future exemplary members of the society, they are cultivating racism and bullying by encouraging their students to bully and to use racist language against members of minority race students. Their actions speak volumes.

This institution is focused primarily on sports and they are not really even good at those. I have lived here most of my life and pay astronomical property taxes to fund a school that mismanages money to focus on athletics over education. The superintendent is just here to spend spend spend and not in a productive manner, the upper staff are conveniently placed yes men who retain their jobs simply because they are willing to play tit for tat with other peoples money. As with all schools they are solely focused on sports and teaching you how to pass a test and not on actual education. This year summer school is packed, one parent telling me that his son has all A and B but didn’t score high enough on his reading state test at the end of the year so he is now in summer school. We can’t hold a consistent coach yet somehow we should buy new stands, turf, and practice facilities to encourage people to stay. It’s a small town with more poverty than anything else, no one is threatening to leave because our facilities are not on par with the big city. During a kitchen remodel from a bond that was worth millions while we still owe for the last massive bond a staff member had to use her personal car to drive food from one schools semi working kitchen to the other schools, they did not offer her any extra pay to help with wear and tear or gas yet plenty of administrative staff are given vehicles just to roam around town in. This school system is a nightmare, I would know I went through it 15 years ago and it has only gotten worse. If you choose to move to this town then plan to shuttle your kids almost anywhere else if you want them to stand a chance.

It is a very friendly enviorment! I have just recently enrolled, but I am around to be a tiger. The teachers are great and the athletic coaches are amazing and have turned Slaton High School around.
