The Winchester school has been a god-send for my anxious little boy with special needs. He loves his teachers, loves the way they make him feel safe to take on academic and developmental challenges. He’s learned so much, and it warms my heart to see him skip in the door in the morning after how stressed he used to be about going each day to his old preschool. Thank you, Winchester!

Our child attended The Winchester School for a few years including during the pandemic. This is a hidden gem in Aspen Hill. The teachers are very skilled and caring, and take safety seriously. The reading program is great, setting a strong foundation. Math is similar, and the science teacher is truly top notch. In addition to academics, children also learn valuable lessons in terms of socializing, respect for others, etc. in a highly diverse environment. This is a wonderful preschool/pre-K and they also have a great kindergarten that is perfect for kids who do not quite make the county cut off but need more challenges, or who would benefit from a smaller environment for a transition.

We loved this school. Our only regret was not enrolling our child sooner. The school is small so they can easily accommodate differences in learning speed. My child was doing 1st grade math in kindergarten early with their help. The teachers are incredibly nice and it rubs off on the children. My child's behavior improved with the school's balance of kindness and discipline. The families who send their children here are serious about learning. I highly recommend this school! A hidden gem.

All of my three children attended The Winchester School and loved all of their teachers. They excelled there and now enjoy education and actively learning as a result. The Winchester School has inspired my daughter to teach herself Japanese and my sons have also begun their own unique educational pursuits. If asked, my only complaint is that sometimes I was not informed by the teachers/aids when my sons had to be reprimanded for misbehaving.

The Winchester is the perfect balance of academics with play. I’m a teacher, with my undergrad in early childhood education, and I wouldn’t dream of sending my child anywhere else. Our children were beyond K ready because of all the learning and exposure they did at The Winchester School, we are eternally grateful!

My daughter started in the Pre-K program for 4-year-olds and is now in first grade at this school. As soon as our son turned 3, we enrolled him in the Pre-K program for 3-year-olds. The structure seemed a little intense to us at first, but when we saw how much our children loved it and thrived in the environment, we were satisfied. The teachers are ethnically diverse and hail from nations around the world. They hold an International Dinner each year and teach the kids about their own cultures throughout the year. From the 4-year-old class and up, the students rotate (change classes) throughout the day and are taught language arts (twice), art and music, science and social studies, Spanish, mathematics, and have a study hall (with the opportunity to work more on whichever subject(s) are giving the child the most trouble). There is also a before-and-after program available for working parents. The price is reasonable. The teachers are very dedicated and teach the children to be respectful of each other, and of adults. Class size is very small, so children who need more one-to-one attention will receive it. We could not be happier with this school.

Both of my children attended this preschool when they were 4 and loved it (2005 & 2008). Having young kids change subjects like middle & high school students is genius for this age. Their attention span is limited and they love having different teachers & subjects to learn and feel like big kids. The transition to Kindergarten in public school was fine, although they learned so much, they complained of being bored. But that faded as the school year progressed. They had a half-day or full-day program and after care & summer camp options for those families who have two working parents. I strongly recommend the program - no complaints.

The education children receive is similar to other preschools. Some of the of the staff are unfriendly and rude. Several people including myself have had experiences where the owner Mrs. Rimm will be very nice then the next she is a different person. I took my child there for a short period of time

This school is the best blend of learning and fun and warmth and support. My kids are thriving there and I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a rigorous, age-appropriate school with lots of extra enrichment.

I am thrilled that we found this gem of a school! My daughter has thrived and learned so much from teachers who truly care about children and about their academic development.

I cannot believe the ratings I am reading! Is this the same school my child goes to? The Winchester School is a GREAT school! It welcomes children with very diverse backgrounds and makes them feel right at home. The curriculum is rigorous - which is what you would want from a structured teaching environment! - and children are pushed to learn - while having fun! My child is currently enrolled in the PreK program for 3 year olds and she loves it! She is happy to go to school and cannot wait to see her teachers and friends. She has learned a lot since starting at the school - including how to adapt to a more organized and structured environment - which is essential for her moving forward in school. Both my husbadn and I feel we have made the best choice we could have made enrolling her in The Winchester School - we highly recommend it to all parents! The school strikes a great balance between learning and fun and we really could not emphasize more how glad we are to have found it! So much so, that we are going to commute for 25 minutes in the mornings to bring both my son and daughtter next year, since we have changed home! Enroll your children - you will NOT regret it!
