Attending this school was a game-changer for my son. He emerged stronger, more confident and with the social and academic skills he needed to be successful in middle school. Allison and her team are amazing educators with the experience to know how to deal with almost any problem that might crop up in grade school. I would recommend this school to anyone.

This school is a must for anyone looking for a social and academic school where the community extends to the parents as much as to the students. If you are a parent ask questions, get involved with your child's education. The teachers here appreciate when you do.

Matheia has been such a beautiful experience for our daughter and for us. Our daughter had some anxieties in preschool last year. The small class sizes , loving staff and engaging curriculum has created this little girl that loves to go to school. She has gained so much confidence, and that has everything to do with Matheia. I am a public school teacher, so at first I was really having a difficult time, fundamentally, sending my daughter to a private school. Seeing how happy she is and how far she has come at Matheia, I know that I made the right choice.

We are so happy to have found Matheia. We toured and applied to several private and gifted schools in the area, but Matheia stood out to us because the small class size of under 10 students offered something different than any other option, and the kids just seemed to be thriving and so engaged in the curriculum. Integration into Matheia has been seamless for our son and we have had such a positive experience. It’s a great community and we’d highly recommend this school if you are looking to take advantage of the benefits of small class size learning!

This is our child's second year at Matheia. Enrolling her at Matheia is the single best decision we've made as parents. I'm watching my child blossom before my eyes as she develops confidence in her ability to read, write, and learn math. There are all the regular benefits of small school/ class size, meaning that each student is given lots of individual attention and can work at his/ her own pace. Art and science are daily classes, and your child will play outside every day. The teachers are knowledgable, kind, and invested in your child's success. In addition, there is a tremendous sense of community in this school. The kids are given opportunities to interact with students in different grade levels, for example, and there are opportunities for parents to participate in the classroom, too. It's a wonderful, fun, and engaging learning experience and we are so lucky to have found it.

Our daughter has been attending Matheia for six years. We especially like the teachers who are specialized in their subject matter area, small class sizes, art and recess every day, appropriately sized homework assignments, and the fostering of the love of reading from the very first day of school. My daughter also participates in the school's Peer Advocates program where she is learning to lead and advocate for the needs of others. Matheia gets high marks from us for academics as well as teaching social and leadership skills that will last a lifetime.

We've had a wonderful experience with Matheia school. Both our children started here in K and we have now been part of the school for 5 years. The teachers are engaged and enthusiastic. Our children are thriving in all subjects, but especially reading, art and science. I love that the focus is on learning as well as being a leader and responsible member of our community. They really work with the kids in developing leadership skills and it shows. The 5th graders are consistently confident, well-spoken, thoughtful and generous. We have yet to have a child move on to middle school but all accounts I've heard are that they kids are very well-prepared for area middle schools. Only downside I feel is it actually being slightly TOO small (for our older child, not as much of an issue for our younger child).

This school teaches students to become the best they can be in academics and in leadership. They try their best to support all students. Even if all students don't feel like they flourish most do. Most I have heard from former students are doing well in their classes in middle school. Specialist teachers work well for many students, it helps them prepare for middle school too. Many students are ahead of class level, some are coming along at their own speed. Not all students are rock stars and that is just fine. This school tries to make students feel happy with who they are as a person and as a student.

This school nurtures you and teaches you how to solve problems, advocate for yourself and be a positive roll model along with all of the standard academic subjects. I know that I wouldn't be the person that I am without this school. My younger sister still attends and we hope she learns many skills as well. This school is supportive of you and embraces your weaknesses or disabilities. It teaches you to be yourself and prepares you, if you are older, what to face for middle school. With what they taught me, I now feel confident to move on. The homework loads are very small, but so you don't expect homework loads to be small at all other schools, they teach you homework levels at all other schools. There are just so many good things about this school that I can't put into words. It is so unique, and you learn skills that no other school would teach, such as being a peer advocate and a problem solver, so you learn how to help others. Class sizes are very small so teachers can work with only you and while you learn what you need to learn, you also have fun! You can march in parades, go on fun field trips, and put on shows. This is by far the best, supportive, nurturing school you can send your child to.

We moved to Matheia because of the small class sizes, and have come to appreciate a lot of other unique and wonderful attributes of the school. My older child has gained a lot of confidence thanks to the involved and individualized approach that the teachers take, and he now finds school interesting and challenging. My younger child loves the daily art class and has benefited from the care that all staff take to give the kids tools for self-advocacy and problem solving. I see some children working way ahead academically, and others coming along at their own speed with lots of caring support from the teachers. In addition to the core classes (including art!), children participate in a new elective every month. In terms of the atmosphere, I would call it very joyful but not free-wheeling. Matheia is a little-known gem.

My child attended Matheia for several years and unfortunately, for us, was not a good experience. With learning challenges and a unique personality, our child was not embraced for individuality and ultimately had developed anxiety and didn't want to attend school. I wish I had seen the writing on the wall sooner. Punishment was to sit at the head office and get in trouble without a kind resolution. Sadly, the owner of the school is not a very warm person, does not welcome feedback and is strongly set in her ways which makes communication and growth impossible. The school is fine and seemingly nurturing up until 2nd grade but I would advise parents to compare academics and social emotional philosophies with other schools.

Oh Donna she is a gem! I And yes somethimes social emotional development is as simple as sitting down and talking through the problem and giving kids tools. I sent my child to a bigger more established private school (that talked the talk about socail/emotional development) and my child was bullied beyond belief before we switched to Mathiea. Whoever this was who felt ill will towards Donna should see what an amazing asset she is to Matheia. Donna has held sick kids in her arms, read to children daily, calmed nervous parents who hid in bushes as their kids went off to kindergarten (yes really) greeted families everyday with a smile on her face. Loved kids as though they were her own. Matheia is really not like any other school you will find anywhere.

My rating is primarily for new students coming into Matheia. I witnessed no effort to transition a child into a new classroom - not even an introduction to other children, followed by irritation with children nervously chatting with new child, rather than educated, sensitive awareness of the dynamics. Classroom observations also showed one very seemingly controlling, cold teacher - who turned out to be the school co-founder (Allison). In two separate instances Allison spent her art "teaching time" telling the children firmly and repeatedly what they could not do (couldn't push imprints too hard into clay, etc.) and finished not with inspiring creativity, but with reminding them that if they had their own design ideas they'd need to see her for approval. Also, when asked about school's social emotional development approach, another school lead, Donna, just commented, "well when the kids fight we're able to sit them down and talk it out and usually it's just a misunderstanding." She did not elaborate.

Our daughter attends Matheia & we are so fortunate that we found this amazing school. Having just moved to Seattle, we looked at many options & this was by far the best. True focus on the children & on creative learning. We are amazed at our daughter's class work & the dedication & focus of the staff. A true gem of a school, that will provide her with a fabulous foundation for years to come.

I was a student at Mathiea, and it was the greatest school I think I'll ever go to. It made even my least favorite subjects seem almost fun, and my favorite subjects that much better. The only thing that would make this school better is if it didn't stop at 5th grade!

We have a five year old in Kindergarten at Matheia, and there is not a day that goes by that we don't realize how fortunate we are to be a part of this gem of a school. Small class size, incredible teacher focus and commitment, and a strong spirit of community involvement characterize Matheia. Add to that a strong academic curriculum, and an hour of play time for the kids at the nearby park everyday, rain or shine. Run, don't walk, to register!

Matheia is more than JUST a school! They are a tight knit community. The teachers want what is best for each and every student. Their low student to teacher ratio allows them the time to attend to the individual needs of each child. Matheia has been a wonderful fit for both of my children! They have nurtured, challanged and encouraged them academically, emotionally and socially. The attention that they have received, allows them to grow and learn individually. They have encouraged my shy cautious daughter out of her shell, to share her opinions and knowledge with her schoolmates. She has blossomed into a leader! Matheia has taught my outgoing son to slow down and take problems one step at a time. He has become a veracious reader, devouring books left and right. Matheia has taught them to advocate for themselves and those around them. Teaching them analytical problem solving skills that can be used for academic purposes or for problems that crop up with friends (and parents). Matheia is more than JUST a school, they have been partners in raising my children.

This is an amazing and loving school. The art program alone is phenomenal - our first grade daughter comes home and teaches us about artists with such passion, things we didn't even learn in art class in college! On top of that, the emphasis on reading is our favorite part of the school. Our daughter entered their pre-k class already knowing how to read and they quickly moved her up into a reading group with peers, even though they were older than she was. The reading groups are formed by ability, not age, which is fantastic. Each child is able to grow in their reading ability at their own pace. After reading is over, the children return to their age-group/grade level for the rest of their classes. Each subject is taught by a specialist (i.e. science teacher, math teacher, language arts teacher, etc) so you get teachers who are passionate about their subject matter and that translates into fun & fascinating classes. Because each class is so small (10 kids max) the work can be customized for each student based on what kind of help the child needs. There are so many little "touches" that make this school feel like a 2nd home. Parents are VERY warm & friendly to ea other.

We have been a Matheia family for 4 years - with 2 kids currently enrolled. We looked at many private and public school options and are so happy with our decision to place them both at Matheia. Small class size (10 students per class), amazing faculty, experiential learning and strong school community all contribute to what I feel has been a phenomenal educational and personal growth experience for my children. Each day, in addition to very strong Math (Singapore method) and Language Arts programs, the students also participate DAILY in Science, Social Studies and Art you won t find this in many schools.... There are also daily electives (student-chosen and very creative) as well as a Spanish program. They also spend an hour out-of-doors, rain or shine, 5-days a week throughout the year. Tuition is reasonable (in comparison to other private school institutions in Seattle) and has been worth every penny to our family. The school's mission (and they truly exceed this) is: To spark the imagination, intellect and community spirit of children in order that they will carry the joys of learning and social involvement well beyond the classroom.
