Lousy. It's gone downhill over the past few years.

My daughtered was bullied relentlessly while at Howard Gardner Multiple Intelligence School...by her TEACHER! The admin was unwilling to help her in any way. My daughter is an honor student but she is a quiet introvert. The teacher ridiculed her, made fun of her, and tried to embarrass her into becoming more extroverted. My child was socially isolated and ostracized. It has taken years to overcome the damage HGMIS did to my child. The "multiple intelligence" part of this school's name is just lip service.

The school has no bullying policy. My child finally had enough and decked one of the kids that had been bullying him and got in house suspension the main bully was let go without even a reprimand. My child is not challenged and is bored where he should be excelling. The entire theory of multiple intelligences is flawed and it is a shame that this school even exists.

Great School! We have three children at the school and have been there for five years. Definitely an alternative approach to education - but the kids LOVE learning. They do some classwork outside and have a dedicated science program. They learn spanish from PreK (and now Mandarin Chinese), and continue to focus on the importance of art and music (which many schools are cutting out). Overall a fantastic education with an individualized approach. True, kids don't sit at desks all day and do worksheets to prepare for a standardized test, but I think we have learned that just isn't working for our country. The focus is on all types of learning and encourages each child's individual strength while working through what challenges they have (without skipping any material). They stick with a work until they understand it - also, if they already know it, they are not held back but can work at an advanced level. The multi-grade setup works beautifully as kids strive to move forward and help each other out. While it may not seem to an observer for 20 minutes that the kids are learning, I can assure you, after five years they most certainly are!!

The children that attend this school do not follow a normal school schedule. They do not have time blocked off for certain subjects. It is what I consider a "free for all" in the classroom. The children distract one another because everyone works on a different subject and they sit at tables, not desks. Not to mention, pre-K and K are in the same classroom, grades 1 and 2 are in the same classroom, etc...I do not recommend sending your child here if you want your child to learn how to follow directions and a schedule.

If you ever see the kids leave this school, they look like mindless zombies. No fun, no nothing. its sad that this school preaches Howard Gardner's Theories but doesn't practice what it preaches. Be careful!

It is a great place for the children to learn together. Howard Gardner has great parents, its also a fantastic place to work.

The educational foundation provided by the teachers and administrators of the Howard Gardner School for Discovery is superb. Both the teachers and administration truly care about the highest quality education available. The 'multiple intelligences' theory of education leaves no stone unturned in providing an engaging, dynamic and potent learning model. Our son thrives in this environment, as will most scholastic-minded children. Teachers from throughout the USA have toured the school to adopt this model into their programs, and with good reason. It works!
