It was enjoyable I enjoyed more then if I went to Pine View. I went there for the VPA and which gave me so many opportunities to advance early in the career of my choosing.

The VPA and Cambridge International programs are amazing! The school leadership is attentive, fair and compassionate. I'm not sure I would send my child here for basic learning classes, but the specialty/Magnet/Charter teachers and programs and are outstanding!

Booker Middle School really is the best kept secret in Sarasota. This is my daughter's 3rd year at this school ,I was very reluctant to send my child to this school 3 years ago I heard so many awful stories, about fighting, drugs, gangs. But I told by a teacher at my child's elementary school to to go check it out. And I did. Needless to say I was amazed . I was welcome in without an appointment, I was able to talk to the then interim Principal Lashawan Houston Frost , I was simply amazed. Three years later I am still in awe my daughter will graduate with two high school math credits and with a great foundation to continue her academic excellent.

This school has an excellent VPA program. The dance and music classes are exceptional and taught by master teachers. You will not find a better school if your child wants to study music. The jazz band is amazing. My daughter absolutely loves this school and cannot wait to go there in the morning even though we have to get up so early! The principals are very accommodating and friendly and are always available. The school is like one big family and very safe. I have never seen anybody get into fights or heard of any bullying whatsoever. I would sincerely recommend this school if your child is into the arts.

My daughter has went to this school for the past 2 years (6 - 7th grades) and will be going this year for 8th grade. She is in the Zephyer Gifted Program, and VPA . - 6th grade was pretty good overall especially VPA - Creative writing & TV Film which both had great teachers. The Zephyer academics were nothing special at all. 7th grade - downhill - they lost the TV Film teacher and the class never recovered. Basically a waste of time. Chorus that year was fabulous - again, they have since lost the teacher so now who knows? Academically again, 7th grade was nothing special at all - pretty basic. The principal was moved last year also, and again, things really declined and kept spiraling downward. The well being of the whole child does not seem present at this school. The communication with students, parents and staff is awful. She has been safe at this school, however I believe it is do to NOT being in the general population. Luckily my daughter is a strong and focused self learner in and out of school.... if not, we would be in big trouble!

All I have to say is RUN as fast as you can... I have 3 children in this school a 6th grader, 7th grader and 8th grader. My 8th grader just got excepted into SMA, my 7th grader is an A, B student and my 6th grader is a good student as well however he has a learning disability. Today my 6th grade son was in a fight. And let me say this is NOT EXPECTABLE in my home. The other child PUNCHED my son in the face twice before my son who practices jui jitsu put him in a choke hold (so he could not punch him anymore) until a teacher got over to them. Let me add the teacher that saw the entire fight WALKED over to them as my son was getting punched in the face!!!! There were many students watching this including my other 2 students. Who could not get involved because my 8th grader would risk his going to Sarasota Military Academy and my daughter because obviously she is a girl. Both boys are being suspended. BOOKER MIDDLE SCHOOLS fighting policy IF YOU ARE BEING ATTACKED you are to cover your face and scream until an adult WALKS over to you. Because there is no sense of urgency unless its them thats getting beaten up. This is no joke this is what I was told by this BS school.
