Slater is a great school. They offer a varied academic schedule as well as zero period for students wanting to take an extra elective. There are many clubs and after school sports and activities for the students. The principal and staff are great.

The principal is great. The supporting staff like is great such as the student advisor and counselors and beyond. so many amazing teachers especially lucky if your kid gets Covey in 7th grade, but honestly there are so many great teachers that are willing to help. We have also been in the Rincon valley school district and I am not lying when I say that I have had far more success in Santa Rosa city schools. The teachers and principals seem to be more responsive to issues and have been far more helpful.

Slater is a fantastic school. My child has had a wonderful experience both academically and socially. The teachers are passionate, professional, and very engaging, and they have a very diverse selection of electives. My kid has loved their time at Slater and is actually sad to see the end of the school year, and that speaks volumes!

My daughter is in 7th grade and she had a wonderful year at slater this school year. The teachers are amazing; they support the studends and work hard to develop their skills and expand their knowledge. They also give the students a chance to redo their test to get a better grade. The principal is amazing too and he works so hard to keep the students safe and he is honest with family about anything happens at the school.

My 7th grader is very happy at the school. The teachers are dedicated, the sports program is superb. We believe the test scores are low due to lack of parental involvement. Many of the students come from low-income households and their parents are too busy working multiple jobs to remind the kids to do homework or study.

I went to Slater, my son went to Slater and now my grandson will be going to Slater in a few years. It has been a great school with a music program, varied academic classes and many after school sports. Their website is constantly being updated and most teachers post their homework online. Can't wait for him to attend there.

I very strongly dislike Herbert Slater Middle School, they treat the students horribly. Not to mention all the smoking, fights, and gangs. It's a horrible place to send your child, I strongly disagree with all of the teachers, One of my sister's teachers actually hit a child in her class in front of all the other students. I can't even type out all of my horrible experiences here, especially the way they treat GATE kids, because I would run out of space. I will just say that this school is ineffective in just about everything they try to do, discipline, teaching, and simple behavior. What I mean by simple behavior is that they don't know how to teach kids the way they need to behave for later on in life. Even the way they will need the act to make it through high school. So, overall I would strongly try to stop anyone who is thinking about sending their child there and just tell them that's it's not worth it just so they can be with their friends, I promise, there are so many better places to send your child.

The PE teachers sometimes make us run in the rain. But ither than that its okay. Some of our teachers are fun , others are just strict. The clubs are fun , mostly latino club we go to 6 flags , and the principal is awesome. And Ms. Coltrin is awesome ! Visit her n room 66 !!! ^.^ <3<3

We were told this school was to be feared and that the teaching was sub par...however, when our son enrolled for seventh grade this year we found out first hand how AWESOME this school is. Grades are on line and IF you follow up with your kid and follow his or her grades, you can be successful here. When things slip, ONE call to the school and things get taken care of very fast. Great staff, great principal, great everything. Love this school!

It's not the greatest school, but it's not horrible either. The school has many gang banger wannabes, and 13-year-old kids who think they are Nortenos. I went to this school half a dozen years ago and whenever I pass by this school that's all I see coming out of the school. This school is not very diverse, as it's almost entirely made up of two ethnic groups, and equally. The test scores aren't anything to brag about, but they're better than Comstock and Cook's, lol.

Horrible administration. They talk to students like they are inmates. I have dealt with them as a parent and I watched off to the side as they speak to them with no respect whatsoever. I know this is a tough age but if you can't show respect how do you expect to get respect. The Prinicipal needs to to do some growing up himself. If you expect to get some kind of professional or personable office staff forget it. Only the one who is great to deal with is the Nurse. Terrible school and terrible scores. This school needs a complete overhaul

I went to this school, this is one of the best schools in Santa Rosa. Teachers are very helpful and the students are great. Not to mention the athletics are good to.
