As a parent I am not very impressed with this school. Sure, the test scores are high. But there is a lack of diversity at this school. The school requires parents to pay $600 upfront to cover the cost of the annual field trips. There is not a lot of allowance for lower income students to attend this school. The teachers and most of all, the principal, struggle to help students who need extra help and provide required accommodations. This school has a lot of shiny awards but neighborhood schools are a much better choice in my opinion if you are looking for community support for your student.

I went to this school many, many, years ago and it was by far the best educational experience I had until reaching college level. Now that I am a parent of children approaching this grade level range I appreciate this excellent school and my years here all that much more. Thank you!

I would not recommend this school. My child went there and we were not impressed. The school does not support learning differences and does not know how to follow a 504/IEP plan. The teachers try their best but the leadership at the school is lacking. The school does not have a community feeling because the kids are coming in from all over the district. It is really hard to meet other parents bc we all live so far apart. It also makes it difficult for playdates between the kids. There is a glaring lack of diversity as well among the student population. I am much more impressed with our neighborhood school and wish we had stayed with it.

We chose to send all our children to Teach for a multitude of reasons, but the primary one was the accelerated, project based learning. Our children went from restless and being told they couldn't "read books above grade level because it makes other kids feel bad" to encouraged to excel. The hands on learning, numerous walks to Cal Poly, electives, and creativity encouraged at Teach allows students to thrive. At our home school the lack of ethnic diversity was both stifling and stressful. As an ethnic minority we found numerous incidents of racism, and although they were addressed by the teachers. At Teach we found much more diversity with students of all colors, many of whom spoke a second (or even third) language at home. Teach is a valuable resource for the SLO community, and we are looking forward to seeing the program grow in the years to come.

My son has had an amazing experience at Teach School. It is an accelerated learning environment where Teachers & Staff have high expectations for students. The Teach community (teachers/staff, parents, and Cal Poly/community partnerships) provide additional learning opportunities such as Innovation & Exploration Initiative projects, STEAM electives, LEGO(R) MINDSTORM(R) robotics programming, extended overnight science study trips for all grade levels, 6th grade play and attendance at Performing Arts Center performances.

I went to Teach back in 1963, I remember Mrs. Bucy s class of Square dance and how wonderful it was then. I now live in South America, on an island called Margarita in the caribbean sea.

Incredibly successful program. Students are encouraged to and given the tools to excel. My daughter not only performs outstandingly, but is also truly enjoying being at school and learning.

Absolutely, hands-down, the best elementary school around! Mr. Crabb, the fourth grade teacher, was the District's Teacher of the Year a few years ago for good reason! He challenges his students while keeping the classroom environment structured yet fun and rewarding. Teach also offers education in the digital lab, teaching students to make and edit movies. They won an award at the SLO Film Festival! I also love the school garden, teaching children about growing all sorts of fruits and vegetables. Other extracurricular "hands on" field trips to AstroCamp, Yosemite and Catalina Island Marine Institute further compliment the student's education. The principal, Mr. Dan Block, is highly involved and truly cares about each and every student at the school. HIs door is always open to students and parents alike. I can't imagine any child not living up to their potential at Teach. My son is reading at the 8th grade level and is moved into higher grades for math according to his needs. Each child's cirriculum is indivdualizaed so they can progress according to their abilities. Teach challenges the brightest of students to live up to their potential in a loving, supportive environment!
