The administrative staff are warm, welcoming, and clearly care for their students. The school grounds are BEAUTIFUL, thanks to their custodian Mr. James. It's clear this school cares about its students and want what's best for them.However the teachers are a mixed bag. My child is in 3rd grade; all but one of his teachers (who retired that year) did not seem to care about their kids beyond the bare minimum. The kindergarten teacher was overwhelmed by the high number of 'high needs' students and had no time for the 'normal' kids. My son overall has not enjoyed his time at this school.I feel a lot of the issues with this school stem from its drive to serve ESL and underachieving students. Which is a good thing as Holly Oak is a Title 1 school, but with most of the school's funding directed towards serving this group (which is a very large proportion of the school's population) by necessity most of the resources go to these children, and the rest who need less resources seem to lose out. I am a member of the PTA and few council committees, and this is what I've observed.Overall, this school has good structure and good administrative staff (the principal and office staff are great) , but suffer from a lack of funds compared to schools who are in the same district but in richer neighborhoods, to serve all children equally.

My experience with Holly Oak has been wonderful. the front desk ladies were very helpful during enrollment ensuring I had all the correct paperwork. The parent/teachers meeting at the begining of the year was very organized and informative. My child enjoys going to school and the staff is always expressing their concerns for safety.

Holly Oak up to 4th grade has some of the best teachers in the district. Unfortunately, at the 5th grade HO has no good teachers. So many parents have horrible stories about how grades dropped for their pervious Honor Roll students. Unfortunately, these teachers have tenure and the Principal cannot motivate them. It's a sad story for the lower grade teachers who work so hard to give our children the best education.

Holly Oak 5th Grade Teachers are horrible!!! Principal is useless!!! He doesn't do anything with parents' complaints. Teachers are more powerful than the principal! Why 5th Graders don't have homework? Why they don't have work in their Friday Folders? Why they don't have enough test weekly? Why do they watch a lot of videos in the classroom? Why their 5th Grade Teachers read a lot of chapter books in the class? Are our 5th Grade Students learning anything from their teachers? How would we know?? Especially with this Common Core Math implementation, 5th Grade Teachers not checking their work! Horrible School!!!

Something has gone wrong with our school. The new pricipal Mr. Hodgin is not encouraging reading skills and activities like the science fair and talent show. I am a 6th grader and proud to say that our school is awsome but down to the new principal. Up to Mr.corpus. Teachers are great but the subs are bad. Our school reenforces lots of rules and all but time for the kids to have some fun. I advise you to look up laurel wood for good rates. I think the rules should be changed up a bit and uh BETTER LUNCHES!!!!!

Holly Oak school has suffered when the previous principal moved to another school because the previous principal was very involved in speaking and working with parents. The school seems to need new care in ensuring a nurturing environment for both students and adults. This of course is only the review of one parent.

My wife and I really like Holly Oak school. Our son was in kindergarten there. The teachers were very dedicated and sent home lots of practice work for our son to work on and gain strength in the areas of his needs. The school is run in a very professional manner. I especially liked the way the teachers and the fine principal Mr. Corpus was open to suggestions. They listen and are very caring about input and ideas from parents. Mr. Corpus was wonderful last year. He really makes the school feel like an extension of our family. Most importantly, our son really felt comfortable going to Holly Oak School and working with all the staff etc. What a wonderful principal!
