I am a substitute teacher for SFUSD and have worked at many elementary schools, and Peabody is my absolute favorite. The students are curious, engaged and enthusiastic, which isn’t surprising when you notice the quality of teaching and specialist staff as well as the level of family support/participation. There’s a strong emphasis from the top down on social-emotional learning, inclusivity and kindness in general. The class sizes are small so it seems students are able to get the individual attention and support they need to succeed. This is the only SFUSD school I’d choose for my own kids (Lilienthal is wonderful, but bigger and slightly impersonal compared to Peabody).

We feel very lucky to be a part of the Peabody community. Mr Vroegh is an involved principal who cares about the school and actually plays with the kids. I’ve been impressed with my child’s teachers who have been caring, patient, and communicative. The staff members are friendly, energetic, and happy to be at school. The PTA is well run and the community hosts many fun events. Parents are down to earth, involved, and volunteer to make school events happen.I’m always impressed with the kids and how polite and well-behaved they are. For example, they are so organized when they play games like wall ball or four square. They abide by the game rules and there’s no arguing. The older kids look out for the younger ones in the yard. It shows that the SEL program at school has taught kids about managing emotions and responsibility. My child is eager to go to school each morning and has learned so much at Peabody, both academically and socially. This school is a gem.

We feel immensely lucky to be a part of this school and community. I know others at other elementary schools who barely know the community - how sad. I think the value in knowing people, forming relationships with the staff and parents here is what makes a school stronger. I feel that I can reach out to teachers any time I have a question or concern. And I feel like my kids are supported in their learning. They are happy and want to come to school. I have a child who needs more help in math and attends morning math club; as well as an after school enrichment program that offers a free math club option. There is also an online math program that the kids use in addition to classroom and written homework sheets so I feel like they are getting a pretty solid opportunity to learn, practice and improve.

Average at best. My son had two great teachers but not so lucky in the past two years. Often I found my kid struggling on the homework assignment because the teacher failed to cover the topics in class. I feel my kid is falling behind compare to kids of his age attending other schools. I am also very disappointed that this school focus so little on Math. With the money the PTA raised, I expect better.

Wonderful school! Peabody's social-emotional curriculum as well as its academics are superb. Its enthusiastic principal is great with the children and collaborative with the parents. Peabody has an active inclusive community. Lots of extras funded by the PTA, which raises over $400,000 each year to provide extra faculty, programming, and support, smaller class size, community building events, extra resources and training for the teachers, etc. Only downside is it's quite difficult to get into under the school district's lottery system.

We have have/had two daughters attended Peabody. Our older daughter completed K-5 and our younger daughter is currently in 2nd grade. Our younger daughter has an IEP and receives a lot of special education services (though she is integrated in a normal classroom). The teachers, counselors, and principal Vreough have continually advocated for our daughter. It's been a wonderful experience. The community is amazing, the teachers are committed and caring, and the pricinpal is very engaged and active. I love the school and not a day goes by that I don't feel blessed my children had the opportunity to attend such a great public school.

I have 1st grader and incoming kindergartener at George Peabody and we could not be happier. There is a very strong community/PTA which raises money for additional teachers, etc. not covered by the state. The principle is very hands on and deeply cares about the teachers and children. The teachers are dedicated to children and go beyond what is expected. They feel appreciated and supported by the principle and the community. The school has two after school programs, after school classes and lots of fun community activities scheduled throughout the year. The school is small which is a huge plus; everyone knows each other and the older kids look after the younger ones. I feel very lucky to be part of this school.

Peabody has a really involved PTA, intense school pride, an incredible principal and dedicated teachers. We have been there for 3 years and it keeps getting better. Every family is asked to give $1000 so there are a lot of gaps filled in that that government doesn't fund in CA.

We really enjoyed our brief time at Peabody for our 2 daughters for K and 1st/2nd grade (SDC). The teachers and principle (and all staff) were great. We would love to stay, but moved to Pacifica (where home prices are more affordable).

Hi, former student here! I'm now in high school. I want to say that George Peabody has given me so many memories that always make me smile whenever I think of them. It is tremendously terrific school because everyday was a day of learning and everyday was a day of fun. Your child will love it, I know I did. (5th grade teacher Mr.Gelfand is awesome! I wonder if he still has silent lion, the class pet!) -former student

It's no secret that Peabody is referred to as a public private school. If you are lucky enough to have your kid(s) attend this school, you also know you must assume responsibility to ensure its success continues. About 8 years ago, parents got together, determined to make Peabody what it is today: a small school with an incredible principal, fantastic teachers and has a community of parents who commit to raising over $200k/year. And the fundraising is from bake sales every few weeks, but by simply writing a check to the school for at least $1000, and often much more. Giving even $10k a year is still cheaper than a private school, and knowing all the other parents are also giving the most they can in time and money to the school means you get to send your kid to a school of devoted, grounded families who become your friends and community, who share your same educational values and provide the school with the resources and support it needs to ensure our children receive the best education possible.

This is our first year at Peabody. What a fantastic school! There is such a great sense of community here. There is alot of parent involvement. The teachers are dedicated. The students are engaged, happy and learning. With less than 300 students for K-5, this school is on the small side, but it is all to the benefit of the kids.

My son is really enjoying kindergarten at Peabody. He actually gets out of the car every day and runs into the playground -- he's so excited every day to learn, to play, to see his friends. Peabody was our first choice because of its small size, small class size, community feel, its reputation as a really good school, and Principal Vroegh, who sets a very high bar of excellence, pride, dedication, and caring. Peabody is a place you just want to be part of. It's down to earth and fun and we feel really lucky to be a part of the community.
