I had to move my daughter from her previous school to Lafayette last year because I felt that she was not getting the education she needed and was behind in some areas. Since she has been at Lafayette, she has flourished socially, academically and emotionally. The areas were she was behind grade level, she is now currently meeting and that is because the teacher at Lafayette truly invest there time to each student that they teach. My decision to change schools was the best decision I ever made with regards to her education.

My child has severe adhd and is struggling, no IEP has been put into place and I’ve beefed the school for months, the school caters towards their hearing impaired students more than any other students and kids with other disabilities don’t get the help they need.

Lafayette is a wonderful school! It is the hub for SDUSD's auditory services, so deaf and hard of hearing elementary school students are centered at this school to take part in the district's DHH (deaf/hard-of-hearing) or auditory/listening (for those with cochlear implants) programs. What is awesome for ALL the students (those with disabilities or not), is having additional adults in the classrooms to facilitate learning! Para-educators and American Sign Language interpreters go the extra mile to be sure students with hearing differences get the information they need, but this serves ALL the students well! My kid (who has normal hearing) learned ASL (American Sign Language) while at Lafayette! Extra visual aids and lots of kinesthetic activities make learning "stick!" Reading/writing happens early at Lafayette due to so much sight word recognition and small group focus. Lafayette is finally starting to get the praise & acknowledgment that its excellent principal, faculty and staff deserve. It received a Quality Schools in Every Neighborhood a few years ago in the areas of Teaching and Learning. There have been significant gains in standardized testing scores in just a few short years. The strong administration & dedicated teachers know the kids well & communicate regularly with families. Lots of neighborhood kids in attendance make it feel like a small-town school community-- students play after school together, you see Lafayette students riding bikes and scooters in the surrounding area, kids and parents wear school sweatshirts & t-shirts proudly around the neighborhood. School families meet regularly at the park, the Balboa branch library, and help in the beautiful school gardens. This will be the 5th year that the school has applied for and received an award from the Sage Garden Project and Sprouts, that sponsors a gardening/cooking program for all students during the school day. The school is about to receive a lot more funding ( >$1.2M); it won a coveted Community School designation that will bring sizeable dollars to meet needs of the school community over the next few years. Lafayette was recently named one of "America's Healthiest Schools." There are awesome annual events like Fall Festival, Spring Garden Festival and movie nights to bring the community together. So much more! Stop into the office to ask for a tour of the campus and meet teachers, staff & parents with one of the members of Lafayette's Educational Foundation (formed this year).

This couple weeks at Lafayette has been a nightmare for my daughter, this is not a good place for a kid with a disability.

My daughter was enrolled in a infant deaf/hearing loss program with Lafayette Elementary school when she was two years old. And our experience was wonderful. The staffs were awesome and so sweet, it was sad switching my daughter out of the school since we don't live nearby the school. But overall I recommend this school to anyone who wants a friendly and family oriented environment for your kids.
