I taught special education at this school for one year. There were some wonderful general education teachers but the special education program was poorly run. We had no support and there was no team unity and my assistant and I were belittled and degraded by the Principal. She could care less about special education. I have a doctorate in special education and my assistant was experienced in serving students with disabilities, yet we were ignored when we asked for support. It is sickening how the special education students were neglected at Prunedale.

One out of my three kids still attends this school. Almost all of the teachers have been absolutely wonderful. All of my sons teachers were great! But I have to say, the last 2 years, this school has gone downhill! Classes are overcrowded, many kids not at grade level, way too many rules, kids are talked to and treated like soldiers... I've heard teachers scolding children in doorways, too much time spent on discipline and not enough on teaching, as I often help out in the classroom. I constantly hear staff members barking orders at kids... There are way too many "bosses" at this school, especially the "yard duties", they have NO patience. I've heard and seen enough so I am in the process of transferring or am going to homeschool. Children deserve better than this type of stressful environment!

I love Prunedale Elementary and so do my kids. The drop off and pick up procedures are very well organized which is a huge plus for me. After having my children attend another school in the area, Im super grateful to have the come here. Its still early on in the school year but so far I love both my children's teachers. When I tell my friends and family who their teachers are, I hear "oh, she's a really good teacher!" and so on =) Last year at the other school, Homework used to take us 2 hours and was very difficult for my oldest to do on her own. Now, the homework my daughter brings home is done within an hour and she can do much of it on her own. It's not that the HW is any easier, just given to her in a way she can understand. This is beneficial to our entire house because homework time can make it a difficult time when both child and parent are frustrated with it consuming so much time. The ladies in the office are always very helpful, being greeted with a smile should be a MUST in all school offices. I can't wait to get to see how the rest of the school year goes.

Too rule based... too many chiefs (yard duties).. Some very good teachers, but that is true at any school.
