The town of Salem and Salem high school are very snoody, if you are not in the right clique, you will not fit in. You either have to be in the Elite crowd (or think you are) or receive Illinois Link and Medicaid. if you are middle working class, you are out of luck, nothing free or any help for your child.

I graduated from SCHS last year and it really set me up well for college. I have so much dual credit I came into college with almost enough hours to be a junior in college. It's not like the classes are really that difficult either. The teachers teach you well. This has allowed me to be able to graduate from college with a bachelors in only three years.

I have three children, two have graduated and have one still attending. My child that is attending at this time, does great in school and likes the teachers. It seems like most of the coaches, coach for the paycheck and not for the love of the students, they are either not trying or mean for no reason. I had one child that had a tough time in school and twice a year we had an IEP. We would set up a game plan even with me calling them, they would not follow it. I contacted the guidance counselor three times asking for him to talk to my child, since my child was having a hard time with a few things in his life, he never talked to my child. I was very disappointed. My last child did well in school, but needed a push in school and sports and unfortunately never happened. I am very disappointed in the administration, the feeder schools score much higher in performance compared to the state, but the high school drops the ball. The principle makes excuses, rather than finding solutions. He needs to stay working for the public sector, his excuses would get him fired, if he worked in the private sector. Effingham, Breese and O'Fallon would be better options, if you are moving.

Salem Community High school is a decent school for everyone is friendly and pretty nice. Now also every school has its cons this school has its "bad seeds" this one it's kinda misguided teacher wise and student help. This school though is mainly just to relax and don't mind the bullies cause there is a lot of them here. The school could improve on money management because it's mainly worried about technology and upgrading it which they really need to worry about splitting the money between the different education departments. Finally that's all I have to say about SCHS all in all it's a good high school

Consistently ignores those with gifted education needs. Uses all funds for athletic teams. Certain teachers that do not meet education standards are never fired because of the "good ole boy system."
