Stay away from this school, especially if your child has any special needs. There is a lack of support for children with any kind of social-emotional support needs and a complete lack of action on bullying unless you take your concerns to the district. Trying to work with the current administrators is an exercise in futility, as the blame for anything that happens involving your child will automatically be your fault and your child's and no one else's. If I were the RISD Superintendent I'd shut this school down and completely overhaul staffing, support, and resources as none of it is adequate.

I have 4 kids and 3 of them have gone to the school so far. The youngest is still preschool age. My oldest started there in 2010 and we have been so happy there. Everyone is like family! Mrs. Britton is absolutely amazing!! Pur family experienced major trauma losing a child and ALL of the staff were there to support our family! They provided incredible counseling and comfort for our kids during that time. Some of our kids are extremely advanced so they provided the best teachers and curriculum for the levels that our kids were on. When they needed extra help, the teachers were incredible! They’ve sacrificed time and worked hard to ensure our kids get the best education possible and they care so much! Mrs. Runyan, Saunders, Webb, Grimes, and Gabriel were just a few of the teachers my kids had and I can’t recommend them enough! They’re wonderful! Double File is home snd it will always be in our hearts! Massive kuddos to Principal Britton for making beautiful upgrades to the playground, keeping the school running smoothly, and addressing parent concerns so quickly.

I would rate 2/5. I went there for like 2011-2016, and it is possible the school/rules changed, but I do remember my kindergarten teacher in 2011, taking our whole class to another student's(they were in my class) house, WITHOUT PARENT'S PERMISSION!!! I don't think anything happened to the teacher because from what I heard, they still teach there...

It was a great experience, just wish they would recognize high achievement for the lower grades. They don’t do any type of assemblies to recognize advanced readers, mathematicians, etc...like surrounding schools do.

Great school! Daughter attends kindergarten and she loves it. All the students in her class are very well behaved, get along great with each other and eager to learn. Don't trust the "official" ratings you see. It's become way too politically driven and a way for schools to claim they nee more government money, bonds ect.

I have my niece attending this school and she is getting bullied and her teacher has done nothing about it.

My grandson attended DFT for PreK and had an amazing teacher Mrs. Borman. She was very kind and encouraged the kids to do their best! He had a wonderful experience and is actually sad that he has a summer break from school.

Our kids attended DFT for several years. We left for one year and made a trek to Leander for a charter school but came back this year. Very glad to be back and wish we'd never left. The kids love the teachers, their friends, the involvement. My middle child is in the G&T here. Just a great school!

I love this school. The teachers, administrators and staff here are wonderful, responsive and very caring! So far we've not ran into a non-super cool teacher yet (3 years)! The teachers are well trained. I'm in awe of the dyslexia team. They really know their stuff. There was 1 incident of bullying, but when that was brought to the attention of the teacher it stopped. I have not seen any issues with Safety. Nothing is perfect, and everyone can improve - so administrators keep improving! One thing they don't have is access to technology for the kids, but the district is going that route with the new Superintendent. They've provided Microsoft 365 for all students in the district for free to encourage the use at home! They cleaned house throughout the district when the new Superintendent took over and Hernandez Middle School's Principal was replaced (next in line if you go to Double File). Been keeping tabs on them as some people were selling their house and moving to avoid the Middle School. It sounds like they are turning them around so our house will remain with us, and we'll go to Hernandez.

My son has attended DFT for three years, we LOVE this school! He is naturally shy and reserved, so it has been thrilling to see him blossom both intellectually and socially. The teachers are great, the kids are great and most of the parents are heavily involved. He actually gets excited about going to school and he comes home excited to share what he's learned. Jo Hewitt is absolutely amazing! She treats the children as if they were her own and is determined to see them achieve academically. At the beginning of every year, the parent / teacher together, set several goals for the child and I've yet to see a teacher that won't match, if not surpass the parents efforts in realizing those goals. The parents are always welcome and I love that. This was my son's introduction to education and we consider him blessed for it to have been at DFT.

Our son is in 1st grade at DFT, his second year, and is doing very well. We were worried about him starting kindergarten at age 4, but both of his teachers have been excellent. He is advanced in all subjects and continues to amaze us. We have considered putting him in private school but he continues to excell at DFT. i would recomend this school to everyone.

I have four kids that have gone to DFT, one of which is special needs. There have been a few of the teachers that my children have had that I feel don't really want to be teaching or care about the kids, but most of the teachers have been fabulous. Furthermore, all of the teachers who have worked with my special needs child have been amazing. They have truly cared about her and helping her reach her full potential, this has been a great place for her.

Last November, the school underwent changes regarding student drop off and pick up. Granted there were problems that brought about the changes, but this new method is horrid. I wait 45 min. to pick my child up from school each day. I have heard several parents complain regarding the same subject. There has to be a quicker, more efficient way for parents to pick up their child or children each day.

Our son started kindergarten at DFT last year and the curriclum and teachers have been amazing. He was reading at a 1st grade level by the end of last year and was well prepared for 1st grade. We absolutely adore his 1st grade teacher and look forward to another great year at DFT.

This school has been wonderful, I have a child in special Ed and two in the regular classroom, all have had a great year! My child has been given every service he needs and I didn't have to fight for it! Parent involvement is encouraged and I love spending time in the classrooms helping! We love it here!
