We absolutely love Neysa Callison school because of the right attention and care our son gets. His first grade class teacher Mrs Hoover was so helpful and supportive. Our son really enjoys going to school . Thanks to the wonderful staff of Neysa Callison Elementary school.

Focus is only to promote students that English as a second language. Nothing is provided for other students. Its very unfortunate.

My son and daughter both have learning needs. We were told that my daughter was stupid by a teacher here. We were told our son had no needs. He has autism, Adhd, sensory processing disorder, dysgraphia and dyslexia. They said he needed no testing. This school is horrible. My children left and started attending charter schools. When I asked to speak to administration about issues never heard back.

We have been at Callison for 6 years. The atmosphere and administration has greatly improved over that time. Some of the negative reviews were from a few years ago when the school lacked good leadership. Currently the school is a wonderful place where my kids feel welcome, happy, and supported. (2019)

Great! We haven’t been here long, but we have loved the teachers and staff.

I recently spent the day assisting my daughter's 1st grade class as part of Watch DOGS (Dads of Great Students). I walked in with expectations formed from my distant memory of my elementary school experience and emotionally charged conversations with other parents about charter schools v. public schools. It turns out that my daughter is getting a fine education in a great, nurturing environment. Mrs. Harris (teacher) was incredibly patient and set a high bar for the students to strive for. One of my favorite highlights was the "reading buddy" hour. A class of older kids come to the classroom and pair up with their designated 1st grader. The older child helps the 1st grader with their reading. My daughter really enjoys this, and I imagine that it is incredibly empowering for the older children. Overall, I did not feel that there was a one size fits all approach and there were many aspects that were customized to the needs of the children. When the teacher noticed that the kids were lacking focus, they would have a dance break to reinvigorate and refocus. There were also “wiggle” chairs for kids that need to move. There is also plenty of technology incorporated into the class room. I am very happy that my daughter is as Callison and I highly recommend for parents to volunteer at the school and experience this for themselves.

The principal and assistant principals are terrible. They always over talk you raise their voice at you while you are speaking. they treat you like you are the problem when you bring a concern up to them. They remove the child from the problem child instead of removing the problem child. They don't return your phone calls and when they do they rush you off the phone. They believe the teachers lies and never really listen to the facts. They allow students to threaten other children without taken action. It's just terrible.

My son was at Callison for 5 years. He loved it and so did I. He thrived there and performed well. I don't understand the 1-star reviews; the staff is dedicated to the students and the new administration is perfect for this school. To the reviewer who claimed that the school has a 40% turnover each year - this is not the fault of the school, but because the students move. Callison is a Title 1 school, and as such, accommodates a lot of kids who live in short-term housing and kids who need academic help. If your child is having issues with learning and the academics provided, perhaps you need to ask YOURSELF why and ask YOURSELF how to get the necessary help without blaming the school. Maybe you could volunteer at the school since less that 20 people are active volunteers at a school with 900 students. My experiences as a parent and a volunteer were exceptional for 5 years, so the school is what YOU make it.

Extremely disappointed with the change in this school compared to years past. Something needs to change.

My son attends Callison Elementary, my daughter attended Callison for two years. This school is like a dysfunctional family. The secretary appears to think she runs the school and evidently the administration lets her. The turnover at the school is about 40% every year (must be a reason) and there is little offered for students outside of the regular day. My son told me that if you don't get in trouble you don't get any attention. I will be taking my son to a charter school next year.

This is the worst school in RRISD. The students are out of control, the principal needs to go as she has been there long enough. The teachers are extremely inexperienced and the academics are washed down so that all the lowest learners will pass the STAAR. My son was in the Dual Language program which is a joke and he fell a year behind in school. If you are bilingual or having problems with academics, they have about 30 people on campus to help out. Their entire Title One spending is spent on the lower learners, not one dime to the anyone else. If you're unfortunate enough to have bought a house int his area like me, start looking at charter schools. More people need to report this principal; her hiring, budget spending and etc. if they want anything to change.

Three of my children have attended Callison over the past five years since it opened. I have been extremely disappointed with the lack of academics at this campus. If your child is receiving special education or is low academically they will get all of the attention. My daughter is in 5th grade this year and is bored out of her mind, never has homework and has yet to feel challenged. She sits in class all day and reads. Half of the staff is hired for the low kids and the most of the staff have little or no teaching experience. I can understand the low rating as the priorities at this campus are clearly to help the less fortunate while the others are ignored. Except for the music, art and TAG program I can't understand any positive attribute at this campus. I would look for other alternatives unless your child qualifies for the gifted program or needs an abundance of help.

This is my son's second year in this school and I love the Staffs and Teachers. They are professionals, caring and on TOP of my list. They are patient, courteous and respectful. I would defenitely recommend this school to anyone.

Have to agree, this school is an awful place to work. The principal definitely has favorites. The teachers are constantly watching their backs because the RTI favorites or 4th grade favorite will report them. There are pockets for experienced good teachers but they are few and far between. The principal encourages teachers telling on teachers. The turnover is ridiculous. There are almost twenty RTI staff members who think they are the best thing since sliced pie and they have convinced the principal of the same thing and sadly it is far from true. They are the laziest teachers in the school. They don't have morning duty, leave at 3:30 and get praised everytime they do anything that is their job. There is not a team leader with more than ten years of experience and most of them are the only ones who haven't left because their immaturity has made others leave for years. I don't miss that school and have been happy since I left. I am in the same district and couldn't be happier with others that have left Callison too.

This school may be ok for students and parents, but it is one horrible place to work. The principal plays favorites and the worst teachers are the grade level leaders. There are pockets of good teachers here and there, but overall there are a bunch of inexperienced people who cannot handle teaching or a classroom. Don't work at this school!
