As a follow-up to my review last year.....My son has still not read any books in his English classes, although he is doing well at plugging along on Teachers-pay-teachers curriculum. Really, every other class has been well run and effective. I am SERIOUSLY concerned with how he will do in high school English. When I attended Garvey we had to read a novel every 2 or 3 weeks.....wow how times have changed.Maybe the admin can chime in on why they are not reading books? Why do you have a library?

All test prep all the time an AMAZINGLY WELL FUNDED pe department. My son has had 4-5 long term subs in English ……..the first one said at open house that they didn’t know what they were doing because there were no lesson plans. It’s March, and he hasn’t read a book in English or performed a play in drama. On back to school night I had to correct students running down the hall, shouting profanities, and talking so loud I could not hear the teacher presentations……. without a blink from their teachers..Many of our friends got into Monterey highlands to avoid the school. I see my optimism was a huge mistake. Garvey has zero continuation of learning from the elementary schools as it goes into full-on test prep at the expense of a worthwhile education..Garvey has always been a school that students must make it through before getting into the Alhambra district. And I’ve taught 7th grade for 23 years and graduated from Garvey.

This school is great, I’ve been going here for a year now and this is my second year. My neighbors have gone here and so has my brother. We love this school. However, they need to get their act together. The give principal is sometimes rude. But she’s usually very nice though and I like her. She has been rude to me several times and suspended me twice for no reason. I had a fight with my best friend and she suspended me just because of that when my best friend was the one that started the fight. I lost money here and the staff in the main office wasn’t able to help me. I also needed my lunch from home due to getting sick from the school lunch and my Dad wasn’t able to bring my food. So, I had to eat the foods that didn’t make me sick and then eat lunch when I got home. However, I just wanna give a huge thanks to Ms. Zaidi, Ms. Dale, Ms. Tang, Ms. Venegas, Ms. Alvarez, Ms. Mancia, Mr. Celis, Mr. Huerta, Mr. Naka, Mr. Chow, and Mr. Micheal Drange. I have had fun in this school and made so many beautiful memories with my brother and my neighbors. However, I have made some sad memories here as well. My most beautiful memories here was being able to make friends here and even find my first ever girlfriend here. I love this school and I’ve made beautiful memories here. But also sad memories too. Graduating from this school in June of 2023 and I can’t wait to graduate. Overall, I love this school even though I’ve made both beautiful and sad memories.

My daughter attends Garvey and has improved in her math skills tremendously her first year there ... her math teacher was a breath of fresh air and knew how to teach in a way my daughter would "get it" as she says. Every teacher she's had is wonderful and I have no complaints. Starting a new year and I expect the same to be true.

I'm about to be a freshman and on the day of the ceremony, when i was about to promote I lost my camera and my phone at the dance. None of the teachers tried to help me and the principal was of no help at all. I was helpless and went without my camera with my promotion photos and with no phone. This memory makes me sad everytime I think about it.This memory made both of my garvey years worth nothing. And till this day I still get depressed about this incident.

I'm currently a senior in high school, and the teachers I'd had in Garvey have definitely prepared me. Despite graduating a number of years ago, I still remember my teachers very well and the procedures that went on everyday during class. The teachers were fantastic, and I can't think of a single class I regret taking. The incoming freshmen from Garvey, however, have less nice things to say about the school. Though they do not complain about the teachers, the school is getting a very bad reputation in the area. Even teachers from other schools know. There's a saying about the school, that students from Garvey have "done it all." This means what you think it means. I loved this school, but it's changed. Don't send your kid here until the school gets their act together.
