My child was accused of smoking pot. HE IS 11 YEARS OLD! We live in a Christian household and don't believe in drugs. He didn't even know what they were until he was accused today. I am very upset with this he came home balling his eyes out because of this. This is unfair. I grew up in Rochester and have watched it slowly fall apart. This used to be such an amazing small town. I am very disappointed to have to write this review but it's like the teachers are picking on my son and accusing a child with learning disabilities of things he does not do! If this continues I will be switching schools.

If you have a child with special needs, do your research prior to enrolling him or her. This district is no longer part of Springfield Area Special Education District, which offered broad skill support to help children with various needs including but not limited to dyslexia, behavioral issues, autism, etc. In doing your homework, request in writing, the programs and curriculums for which staff are not only trained in, but also fully implement on a daily basis. If example, if your child has dyslexia, does the district provide Wilson Reading or Orton-Gillingham? Research shows phonemic awareness isn't enough. So, ask questions. Like many Illinois schools, chromebooks are used to facilitate learning rather than the teacher teaching expositorily. Would that style work for how your child learns? Reading research papers on the effects of computer use in young children may prove useful. Help yourself and your child by becoming an informed parent. If your child does not have a disability, this school may meet your child's needs.
