Sage Ridge School has been an exceptional choice for our senior. The rigorous academic program has prepared her well for college, and the supportive community has fostered her growth as a young woman. The teachers are dedicated and passionate, and they truly care about their students' success. We are grateful for the experiences Sage Ridge has provided.

We have been impressed with Sage Ridge from the start. The safe and professional learning environment and culture of excellence, and focus on Sage Ridge’s 5 core value “Pillars” makes this a special place where kids love school, and love to learn.

Our family could not be happier being part of the Sage Ridge community. Yes, the school has had transitions in leadership and faculty in the past few years, but it has only been for the better. The faculty being recruited by the current administration are top-notch, are bringing much needed fresh energy and curriculum, and are again setting the school apart. Regarding the price, yes, it all does add up... the tuition, uniforms, extracurriculars and philanthropic requests, so be prepared... but when you look at the total and compare it to other private schools across the country with similar ratings on this site or on Niche, and consider the fact that we live in an awesome city, have a great quality of life enjoying the outdoors and our proximity to big cities and easy air travel, not to mention Nevada is a tax-free state... you quickly realize there are no better deals in the country for a non-sectarial, independent school education! Our kids are taught art by real, credentialed teachers. The PE teacher has 30+ years experience. Upper School faculty have PhDs. Music. Computers. Spanish language starting when they are 8. Theatre performances. Robotics. Test prep. Not to mention the incredible journeys they go on through signature Sage Ridge programming - Sage Sessions and Outdoor Education. Kids being kids and learning how to treat others with kindness! Between the holistic academic preparation (yes, Sage Ridge students get more than math and English, which is sadly all the public schools offer these days...) and the character development (the Sage Ridge pillars are not words, they are actions!), this school is developing leaders for the next generation and we are proud to be part of the Scorpion community.

I have been part of this amazing community for seven years, my two children attend this amazing school! The personalized attention, small student to teacher ratio, the amazing teachers who support my children are bar none, the new headmistress is incredible and reset the school on the right tracks. The few problem families left which only made the environment more wonderful! The bond that my children have with their peers and the family friendship we have made have thoroughly enriched our lives. There is simply no comparison in this community academically speaking, our kids are thriving. Sage Ridge is also a very diverse environment with families from diverse backgrounds. In addition to the most amazing academics, SRS has the outdoor education program where the students get to go to a different area every year with their classmates and have the most wonderful adventures. They also have the Sage Sessions at the end of the year where they get to take an international trip or take the most interesting classes for two weeks. There is simply no better option!

I have two children who have been at the school since the earliest entry point. I am confident that Sage Ridge is the best option for them in the Reno area. They get so much attention and care from faculty, and they are growing into their potential in a safe and challenging environment. My kids get to rise to high standards (academically and behaviorally) while being held accountable and being cared for. Meanwhile, they get to explore athletics, theatre, and leadership opportunities. It’s not always easy, but the look forward to going to school and doing their best.

Unfortunately there are not many great things to say about this school. Between the large amount of staff turnover, the lack of teacher alignment between the grade levels, and extremely apparent lack of diversity, this school is destroying itself slowly overtime. My child lost all confidence and self-esteem while attending this school and we are now trying to repair it. The leadership is embarrassing and completely ruining any good reputation the school had within the community. There is absolutely no organization and the way issues are handled at the school leaves a bad taste in everyone’s mouth. The board of trustees has continued to ignore the issues facing the school. More families have left in the past year than I ever remember. New families that come in, quickly leave and feel as though they’ve been tricked because the school they were “sold” is nothing like the actual experience. It’s sad to see what once was a great school, slowly lose its reputation and forget what the purpose of the school was when it was created. I would not recommend bringing your child here if you are a member of any diverse population or if you don’t want to see your child lose any happiness or confidence they once had.

Unfortunately, Sage Ridge has gone from good to bad to terrible over the past several years. We have two children there at the moment. While there’s always been some of level of disorganization in administration, the school completely fell apart this year after Ginger Hovenic took over as headmaster. She makes decisions quickly, often without obvious logic and seemingly to appease complaining parents. Teachers don’t seem aligned and often complain - to parents and students - behind her back. The result is that at least 10 teachers left during the school year this year. Some beloved teachers left mid week with no notice. Keep in mind this is a school with just over 200 students, so it’s been extremely disruptive. When the AP math teacher left mid quarter, they just stopped teaching the class until someone else could figure out the lessons roughly six weeks later, thereby totally screwing the students. And when teachers leave, Hovenic sends an email to the school trashing the departed. We had to explain to our children that this is an example of embarrassingly poor leadership, please don’t this it’s appropriate at any time. Students are also leaving in droves. Half of several classes are leaving at the end of this year (leaving some grades with less than 10 total students). We waited too long, unfortunately, and now all the other good private schools have waiting lists. So we’re stuck until we can find another alternative. If you’re considering Sage Ridge, probably wise to ask how many students and teachers left last year. As well as why is there no wait list here…

This school is in a downward slide. Be very careful before enrolling your student.

We are very pleased with Sage Ridge School and its focus on academics and academic standards. It seems the previous head of school was ineffective and has since been replaced, which seems to have improved the school environment and atmosphere for the faculty and staff to excel in what they do - which is teaching their students and holding them to high academic standards. There is no "woke" curriculum as another reviewer stated - this is completely false and frankly laughable. The school's week-long Outdoor Ed program is fantastic. It's wonderful for the students to be able to get out into our local Sierra Nevada environs (and beyond) for a week to bond, learn, and enjoy the outdoors. Sports are offered yet they're not be-all end-all. A variety of other extracurriculars are offered too - from theater and the arts to STEM and things like fencing, mountain biking, etc. The students and families we've met are intelligent, involved, and welcoming. All around thumbs up!

As we evaluated the opportunity to move to Northern Nevada, we wanted to ensure our children would thrive in a growth-oriented learning environment. We found Sage Ridge to be unrivaled in the greater Reno area, across many facets as a college preparatory school. Not only is it set apart in this market, but also when comparing it to options in the larger metropolitan market from which we moved (Bay Area, CA), we noticed that Sage Ridge performs just as well or better than the most reputable independent schools in our area there, when we looked at key metrics that are measured, e.g., upper school AP loads and pass rates, college admissions stats, college merit grants and aid offered to seniors, etc.We saw that the school would provide a learning "home" until college for our two children who have vastly different personalities, strengths, development needs, and interests. Sage Ridge teachers are thoughtful and passionate about cultivating their student's curiosity, honing their critical thinking skills, and providing a safe environment for them to challenge themselves, and learn and grow from their successes and mistakes both academically and socially/emotionally. We as parents have witnessed our children's significant growth in just one year, but what is most heartwarming is that our children themselves have recognized how much they're learning, and have actually thanked us multiple times for moving them to Sage Ridge!Sage Ridge's ongoing success is tied to its constituency living its Pillars, and Community is an important glue that binds it all. The sense of community that exists at Sage Ridge includes the students who form bonds, and go through periods of success and conflict together during their grade's Outdoor Education and other experiences throughout their years at the school. It also importantly includes a talented, thoughtful, engaged, and supportive group of adults - faculty, administration, parents, and the Board of Trustees, who collectively and collaboratively work together on continuously improving various programs and offerings at school. As parents of a lower and middle schooler, we envision spending the next decade at Sage Ridge, until our youngest heads to college. We are beneficiaries of thoughtful strategic efforts which began before our arrival, to build quality learning environments. This includes the new Student Activity Center coming very soon, and additional planned facilities will take the already high quality even further.

I have one child in the Sage Ridge high school and it has been an incredible experience. My high school son has grown so much through learning to be an independent thinker, learning to write and express himself, being challenged academically, and becoming friends with kids from 9th to 12th grade. I know that my child is learning to think for himself and he will be successful in a university because he will be prepared for college and will have life skills that will serve him well.

We have kids in 4th and 9th grade at Sage Ridge. Now more than ever I am convinced that I couldn't have chosen a better school for them. Sage Ridge has definitely fulfilled all of my expectations. I would highly recommend this school to any parent looking to provide their children with strong academics, moral values and set them up for success in college!

My kids are 4th and 10th grades at SRS. I am very pleased with the warm interest shown to our family and the noticeable academic achievements of my children. Especially during the pandemic period, the school’s administration’s and teachers' devotion to the academic work is very unique and impressive.

My child was there for a few years and I feel this school is not worth the $21,000+ that you pay for it. Since, we have left the school our child is much happier and less stressed.

Overall experience has been good. My children like their teachers, they like the small class sizes, and they are being challenged academically. They are not just faces in a sea of students in the middle school hallways. They are known, they are cared for.

I notice that most of the really good reviews are a few years old. The first year was ok, then the really good teachers started leaving in droves. We have had at least four teachers leave in the middle of the year, sometimes in the middle of the quarter, leaving the kids to start again with a new teacher. The headmaster was forced out last year, which was good to some and not so much to others. The interim headmaster seems to have short-timers syndrome.Remember all the mean girls you went to high school with? That's who makes up the parent's association and controls all aspects of social functions at the school. Overall, if you are a super-rich, white, helicopter parent with overly sheltered kids, this is the place for you. If your kid shows some individuality or somehow doesn't fit their mold, they will have no friends and get picked on. With the small student population there are no alternatives. At least two kids in my kid's grade became suicidal from the environment here. Not great odds in a class of less than 50.If your kid is a total overachiever and you are a helicopter parent or tiger-mom, great. You will fit right in. Otherwise, save your money.
