I see there are some negative reviews for OPMS, but people should know that the school district has addressed the issues. They have had staffing changes in the last few years & the atmosphere at the school has changed for the better. Students at OPMS get the benefit of attending a school that is safe & covers the educational basics that students need, plus some pretty cool extra things going on. They promote to the high school next door & typically enter high school well-prepared for moving forward.

Incompetent science department. Very bad science instruction. They really need to take what they have, flush it down the toilet and start over.

BAD SCHOOL. Grades are based on coloring and arts and crafts, not on knowledge. Middle school that is more suitable for entry into 1st grade than high school. No depth to anything. The bulk of the science teaching is simply copy the text exactly from a handout to a paper doll like flipbook. At least in eighth grade they do use a text book, albeit for the purpose of copying the pictures to the paper dolls. They are subsequently told to color them exactly as they are in the text. I guess I really don't know why this school district even wastes the money to buy textbooks. There are lots of good pictures on the web.I guess the take away is if you want your 7th or 8th grader to get real good at copying and coloring then this is the place for you. BTW, they are all stuck in their ways so no hope of getting them to change.Very very bad.

Very bad overall experience. Very strange educational style. Unfortunate it's the only show in town.

My son goes to this school. What I like about this school are the afterschool sports programs that keep the children busy and they attend competitive meets. The academics part is not bad, somewhat challenging. No complaints so far.

There are teachers at Olive Pierce Middle School who are allowed to bully students..just google the Channel 10 News audio of a teacher from Olive Pierce verbally abusing a student. This was not an isolated incident. There was another incident involving another teacher a special education teacher who ridiculed and bullied an autistic child in her classroom last year. Unfortunately the administration protects the teachers not the students. With all of the media regarding bullying in schools and zero tolerance for bullies in schools you would think that this would apply to teachers bullying students too especially when it is a special education teacher bullying a disabled student.

Agree with earlier post. The thought seems to be that if all of the kids get "A"s that they will be interested in school. We moved to another district and realize how poorly my kids were equipped. Everything seems geared to scoring high on API; writing instruction is horrible. Elementary schools were fine in Ramona, but Middle School is terrible.
