St. John's Prep is an amazing academic high school. I enrolled both of my children here, despite listening to the negative talk from others regarding the school, and mind you, none of these individuals had children in this school. I'm so happy I don't listen to others and find out for myself if a school is good or not. Although COVID took away most of my first child's senior year and my second child was virtual for quite some time and missed out on some of the extra curricular activities this school has to offer, granted they never missed out on the high school experience. Thanks to the wonderful teachers in this school. The teachers and staff at this school are caring and attentive to each and every child. If a child is experiencing an issue, either scholastically or personally, all they have to do is tell a teacher or other staff member and they will receive the assistance they need. With every private high school, the price tag is high, but I would spend it all over again and pray COVID wasn't a factor in our time. I just wished that my children were more involved in activities and clubs. Academics can be challenging, but it's what the student puts into the work. If he or she doesn't put an effort into studying or is lazy, then the result will be negative. If they make the effort to work hard and excel, then the result will always be favorable. If a student is experiencing a difficult time in a subject and requires extra help, they have after school classes set up to assist. The teachers are very fair at St. John's and will give extra help when needed. I can't say enough about how wonderful these teachers truly are here. Incoming students have to get involved in all this school has to offer. Be vocal, be happy, join a sport, join a club, ask if you can start a new club or volunteer. The teachers will help you, all you have to do is ask.

Please read. As a current student of this school i can say save your money towards college or look for better options for high schools. My teachers are uncaring and are not looking to help at all, and then get tests where no one knows how to do them and mostly everyone fails. Asking for help goes ignored sometimes mocked, at the time of writing this all the school bathrooms are currently closed and only way to use the bathroom is signing in from the student center 1 by 1 into the only school bathroom due to the administration closing them, I’ve been a student through covid times and the school did not contact my family the 2 times i was exposed to covid in school and i had to find out from the other students that were sick. I feel very behind in every subject and this school has drained me of all my happiness and mental health ,the days i was out due to covid were counted as absent days on file, Every teacher including the dean will try showing some type of power and bring you down daily. I’m waiting patiently to graduate and never look back. If you have the choice dont attend. The only good thing i have to say is about the bullying that might be the actual only thing they enforce

The school managed Covid protocols very well and I always felt very safe to send my son to school. Principal and administrative staff deserves kudos for execution of flawless process.Math, science, english and computer science teachers were simply awesome for grade 9. My son enjoyed his classes and was looking forward to go to school.

In 1984, when I started SJP, I was so excited. I had a great 4 years and I met some wonderful people. When my son started SJP in 2017, I was so thrilled for him. He was a legacy after all. My mother-in-law was in the first graduating class. My husband, my sister-in-law, my son’s godmother, my cousins, and some of my best friends went there. Alumni wasn’t just a word to me. My son is a 16 year old boy. No excuses, but they make mistakes. In early October, I reached out to the school to ask for help with my son, my growing teen. The advice I was given was get outside help. That was it. So I followed the advice. SJP didn’t follow up us. SJP didn’t help my son in his time of need. SJP didn’t touch base with him regularly. SJP didn’t reach out to me to be a team, as a school and a family should be. Now they’ve turned their back on him. I’m so disgusted. I’m so upset. My family would do anything for anyone. We are members of the community that try to always do what’s best. Instead of working with us, alumni of the school, instead of trying to work with my son, a child that had two and a half years in their school, their answer was we won’t help you. Their answer was we don’t have the resources to help. If you chose to lead teenagers in today’s society, then you need the resources to do just that. My son isn’t a bad kid. My son needed help and instead of helping they made things worse. I can’t tell you the loss I feel in my heart for SJP.

It prepared me for higher education and selecting the course of study that was suitable for me at the time.

I agree what other parents are saying with this school. Mychild is a Sophomore and I couldn't thanked St John's enough for the opportunities that he got from this school academically, socially and spiritually. my son is looking forward to the educational trip next year. I recommend this school to other parents. And my daughter will eventually go to the same school next year.

St. John's Prep cares about its students academically and morally. It is a wonderful choice for any 8th grader to attend. It offers many half year electives for students to have an areas of study in Computers, Art, Business, Science, etc. that other schools like McClancy and Christ The King do not have, since they only offer full year courses, limiting family choices due to programing. The school is affiliated with St. John's University and seniors can attend their year on campus and finish Freshman year of college in their senior year and can begin as sophomores at any college they wish. The honors program is amazing with many college credits accumulated even before senior year. Beautiful campus, caring staff, variety of courses, safe neighborhood. I recommend this school to any 8th grade parent looking for a high school.

I'm a senior in this school currently. I'm pretty happy to be leaving. The teachers in this school (70% of them) are awesome, they know how to teach well, make things fun and are very courteous to all of us students. The remaining 30% could be better and normally play favorites. There is a sense of favoritism amongst some of the faculty though. I am an honors student, have maintained a 95 average and didn't get selected for NHS or Campus Life, while kids who had significantly lower averages than I and more behavorial problems did. These kids are all either in sports or friends with the faculty. The students are a hit and miss. Some are really nice and cool, some are just ugh. This school is ethnically diverse to the core, but not diverse in anything else. All the kids like horrible rap music, ugly clothes and sneakers. If you don't like any of those (like me), you may find it hard to make friends. Some of the kids are snobby and rude. A large amount of my senior class dreads coming to school, like it sucks the life out of them.

St. John's Prep is a wonderful school. They have courses in each subject area which are on 4 Levels - Honors, Advanced, Regular, and Below. This way a top child can be highly challenged in their strongest areas in Honors and Above Level challenges in areas which they are above grade level but not as strong. This is the only Catholic High School which has Advance classes too.. Most only have Honors or Regular classes. If you do not make honors, then you are only in Regular. Also, the amount of elective classes are abundant in comparison to other schools like McClancy, St Agnes or Holy Cross. If you live in Western Queens, there is no other place to go to besides St. John's Prep for your son or daughter.

St. John's is an excellent school that offers a challenging curriculum and many extra-curricular activities. It is connected to St. John's University. The students are well-mannered, and I have had lots of chances to observe them. A big emphasis on service. Teachers are great and many students from other schools go to St. John's for tutoring and help.

St. John's is a great school and has a tremendous academic program. Really great, so many students win scholarships to college. It is like a big family . Everyone is nice and even the upperclass welcome kids and really, there is no bullying. The teachers and guidance have a lot of connections to top colleges and the alumni, who come back for career day etc. also are very impressive. Several of my junior and seniors got job offers. We also get to go to a lot of special programs at St. John's university.

St. John's is a fantastic school. The teachers (with the exception of a few) are awesome and are always offering study/review sessions after school. There are a ton of clubs and activities, and there are several sports teams. I am aware that this school has a bad reputation. That is strictly because of the students. They have absolutely no manners. However, that only goes for about 25% of the school. That may seem like a lot but it really isn't. Being a junior in all honors classes, I don't experience bad behavior in class. However, I definitely see it after school, and I've adapted to it (although I still tend to roll my eyes at those groups of people). But please do NOT let this discourage you from going to this school. I really mean it. As long as you find your group of friends, you'll be absolutely fine. Making friends was not one bit hard for me, and I must admit I'm a huge nerd. There is no bullying because everyone has friends. I think having friends is the most important part of getting through high school. You'll always have someone by your side. Give SJP a chance. It really, truly is an amazing school with amazing opportunities.
