We love P.S. 84! It has exceeded our expectations with its small class sizes and exceptional teachers. Every teacher our child had was terrific. It would be amiss to not give a special shout out to Mrs. Scarpa who had our son for two years. She stood out for her kindness and intelligence, making school both enjoyable and meaningful for students. She not only supports academic growth but also instills a love for school in her students (and a sense of family in the classroom!!), leaving a lasting positive influence that extends beyond the classroom. Mrs. Scarpa truly made a difference in child’s lives and I don’t know how we’re going to handle middle school without her!

My daughter has been attending PS84 since 2nd grade and is going to graduate next year. When she arrived she didn't speak English. PS84 has fulfilled all my expectations and more. Teachers are committed, creative and respectful of students. Their ESL programme is just great, they take care of every kid ensuring no one is left behind. My daughter was able to properly speak, write and read English in no time, she is getting high grades and is fully integrated in her community. I appreciate the teachers effort to develop not only strong academic results but also social- emotional skills. Mr. Armano is an amazing principal, very accessible and willing to listen to the community to make the most of the school despite resource scarcity. And parents I encountered over the years are nice people, most of they engaged with the school which creates a family feeling. PS84 has build a sense of belonging not only in my child but in myself. I'm sad we have to left the school next year and hope to find something similar somewhere else.

This school is beyond amazing! The teachers, administrators and even the custodial crew go above and beyond for the community. Principal Armano is amazing!! He’s committed to the school and the community. His ability to communicate with the community is effortless. AP LaMarca is top notch. Love, love, love PS 84.

We love PS84. My child enjoys being there and most of the teachers shes had over the years were hard working and kind. I'm proud of her progress and know most of it is because of her teachers every year. The only thing that I know makes some parents uncomfortable is the favoritism for some teachers and not others (who are great!) Yes they are all friends but there are more talented teachers at this school who should be recognized for it! My daughter tells me that the other students notice it too. But I'm happy because my daughter is happy so that is all that matters

I toured every school in Astoria when my child was entering both PreK and again K. While I can confidently say that ALL Astoria schools are great and it comes down to a matter of preference, our experience at PS84 has far surpassed what we would have wanted or expected in a school so far. My child attended a larger public school in D30 for PreK and while we were happy there and LOVED their teacher, PS84 was the only school that gave me that warm, inviting, sincere feeling on the K tour. Thank goodness that we decided to send my child there, because once the pandemic got worse, PS84 was one of the few schools that hardly had closures - unlike the many larger Astoria public schools. They handled everything with grace and humility and we were VERY happy with the blended learning that was provided by our Kindergarten teacher, Ms. Valentino. Communication is effortless and because the school is smaller, there is a more intimate relationship between staff, parents and kids alike. Everyone knows my child's name and that's special. The education being received in K and now in 1st Grade with Ms. Haase has been incredible and I feel that my child is being pushed properly and challenged at the right level, with all of their needs being met. My child will happily tell you that they LOVE school and that they LOVE their teacher. We couldn't be happier to have Principal Armano carve out and execute the path for PS84. My youngest will (hopefully!) attend for PreK as well.

I feel very lucky to be sending my daughter to PS84. It’s an incredibly warm, caring environment and Principal Armano goes above and beyond to make sure all children are getting what they need. His whole child approach is unique and sets the school apart from other larger schools. There is an emphasis on social-emotional learning which can be felt around the school. My daughter has had truly excellent teachers who do fun, enriching activities to keep learning interesting, and she absolutely loves the music program. It’s a lovely community to be a part of.

Our daughter started Kindergarten at PS84Q in September 2020 and we could not be more pleased with our choice to attend this school! The teachers and staff are warm, caring, welcoming and exceptionally good at listening to and communicating with parents. Principal Armano is amazing. It is a small, tight-knit community, which is exactly what we were looking for and what is hard to find in Astoria as many Elementary schools are excessively large. During the height of the pandemic PS84Q was only completely closed for covid exposure 1 time, clearly demonstrating the commitment to covid safety among the staff and parent community. Their focus on whole child education, music, art, STEAM, social-emotional learning and community service minded endeavors by far exceeds anything we saw at other schools in the neighborhood. We have no idea why this school rates the way it does on this website, it's definitely inaccurate.

I love this school and my daughter loves being there. She has learned a lot but most important she is a happy child and likes being there. Her 3 grade teacher made a difference in her life and I know my daughter will never forget her. Sheloved and helped my daughter so much that she and alot others in the class got high grades on State tests and my daughter doesn't need ELL anymore which was a surprise to my family. Some people were born to be teachers!

How 'good' any school is at any given time can only be determined by the quality and commitment of it's current group of teachers and administrators. After having interacted with much of the staff at PS 84 and seeing my grandkids thrive there this year, I can honestly say that this school offers an excellent and innovative education experience in a supportive and nurturing environment. I've had the opportunity to observe the inner workings of other schools and I've rarely seen any that measure up to the level of PS 84. Congratulations and thanks to all those who work so hard to maintain that high level!

The teachers and administration are all highly invested in the success of the students, which range from Pre-K to 5th grade. My two kids attend P.S.84 queens and look forward to going to school! The school has a STEAM program, which is great for our kids! The teacher to student ratio is amazingly low, but not ideal for school funding purposes. i wish more of the community's families considered enrolling their kids into the school.

PS 84 is by far one of the best schools in queens. The teachers are great, the administrators are great, the students are great. Mr. Buffa, the principal has an open door policy and handles every situation with ease. He's a real pro. Mr. Armano, the Assistant Principal used to teach at the school so he has a good understanding of the entire school community. He even dressed up as Santa during the PTA's Winter Wonderland, definitely a great addition to the administrative team. The teachers are absolutely wonderful they really get involved with the children. When I walk into the school I feel as thought I'm home. The people are PS 84 are family!! I'm so lucky that my children get to go to PS 84.

I have seen my child thrive at PS 84 over the past year. She has received instruction that surpassed my expectations, challenges her, and helps her fine tune in her areas of interest. Her teacher has been a wonderful advocate and is a true partner-- making sure to communicate her strengths and weaknesses, struggles and social needs clearly. There is room for improvement to make the school more rigorous and ambitious overall, but I have found a great community of engaged and caring parents and educators here. I also really appreciate the school owning up to its name and nurturing community leadership and have found the exchanges between older and newer students to be wonderful. Keep up the good work!
