  We were referred to special services by our pediatrician to do an initial developmental screening. The staff in this office is very unorganized. Each time I call I am routed through 3-4 different people who all seem quite bothered to be answering questions and phone calls. Once we finally did the screening it was the same scenario. Lots of waiting and each “specialist” seemed rushed to complete each screening. By the time we left 2.5 hrs later my child was agitated, tired and hungry! I grew up in this area and attended Puyallup schools for my entire education. I’m quite disappointed in “special services”. They all seem quite unhappy to be there and helping individuals who are looking for help from “licensed professionals”. They may be licensed but they are not professional. ...More Reviews

  Special Services is the office that manages speech therapy throughout the district. The speech therapy provided is misguided and highly deficient. The work they did with my child reversed the improvement he reached in private therapy.The special services office protects the speech therapists and I assume they are also protected by a union. The initial testing by the district was inaccurate and inconsistent with the evaluation done by a clinical speech therapy office. They are using out-of-date testing and therapy approaches. I was surprised at how universal is the knowledge among speech therapists locally that this school disctrict speech therapy is not only way below par but often might actually be hurtful to students. Such a sad state of affairs. And as a parent, dealing with educators under the umbrella of unions, I have no recourse unless the speech therapist or teacher has done something illegal. I suggest that no speech therapy is better for your child than the speech therapy provided by the District. ...More Reviews
