The principal is wonderful. The have a fantastic PTO. There are some wonderful teachers and support staff. There is one teacher that I have found to be too harsh on the students.

Being a military family, we have experienced quite a few schools. When we moved to Florida and my kids started at East, I was pleasantly surprised to find a staff that truly cared about their students. My kids were welcomed in like they were “lifers” which is important for kids to feel like they belong.

3rd week into school year, moved from different district. So far my Kindergarten and 2nd grader like the school but my 4th grader really dislikes it. He says the staff is great but the kids are crazy, don't pay attention and in general are very disruptive. I don't know what other options I have but I am very worried. The school needs to develop a more effective way of dealing with inappropriate behavior for 9 / 10 year old children who act out and swear.

Music teacher generally hates children, as well as many others working there. Don't teach if you don't like kids.

I really wish there was the option of giving this dreadful school no stars. This is absolutely the worst school I have ever seen in the past 19 years of putting my kids through school. The staff is very mean, the teachers are unfriendly and just throw worksheets and homework at the children with little interaction. Did I mention the putrid treatment of minorities? Well my child and many others have faced prejudice due to their race or religion. Even when I came to the school for awards or simply picking up my child, the staff kind of looked at me unequally and acted awkwardly around me. Their cafeteria staff is also quite impolite. Instead of immediately notifying me that my child's account was low, they would allow the money owed to build and harass or yell at my child about it; a staffer even sent home a letter saying, "You need to enroll your child in free lunch." This school is quite unsafe because my daughter was never Id'd when dismissing my child early. A teacher even told me that it was a "redneck school." Thus, minorities don't belong. All in all, this is a horrible school! If you are assigned to this school for your child, you are better off doing school choice and driving them how far it takes to get there. The mental and emotional wounds on your child should matter more than the commute. My child goes to Deep Creek now and all I can say is the Cubs rule!

This school is like any other pubic school in Florida, it teachers to the standard with no room for moving ahead or slowing down. I changed from Sallie Jones Elementary in Kindergarten so my son could be in the enrichment program, he was already a grade level ahead in math and reading. He was moved back into regular class because his handwriting and phonics weren't good enough. Then, in first grade, his class was unruly and noisy, and he didn't graduate in the top 16 of all first graders, so not in the enrichment program, even though he could complete all the first grade assignments before school even started.

This is our fifth and final year at East Elementary. It is a great school with a great staff. The parking lot can be an issue during parent drop off and pick up, but most of the problems are caused by the parents not having their child ready or leaving their car in the pick up line and going inside creating a hazard for the children when other parents have to go around them. We will miss the staff here!
